Question DIC problems if cruise is enabled ????

I have a 2009 cobalt, auto, 2.2L .

I can press the info button and cycle thru the DIC normally...UNTILL I press the enable cruise button (the button the illuminates....not the set/res buttons). Once the Enable cruise button is on...the DIC wont cycle when I press the info button.

Any idea what would cause this? is this a common problem? I can live with it ... its just odd and makes me wonder if my ECU is dieing

thanks!

I've had an occasional issues over three years on my '08 SS where after engaging cruise with the set button the "CRUISE ENGAGED" messaged stayed on and didn't return to the previous display after a few seconds. This has only happened maybe two or three times and I chalked it up to a glitch in the programming of the controller. It always starts responding again and cycling through displays when the info button is pressed.

Just to clarify, on your car the display becomes unresponsive after you turn the cruise control system on with the on/off button and turning it back off has no effect? First thing I might try is to disconnect the negative cable of the battery for an extended period of time to see if it resets one of the micro-controllers that run the display. Does the cruise still work and accelerate and resume even if the display isn't working?

Beyond that and maybe checking some simple things like the switch panel on the steering wheel or maybe something like the clock-spring wiring in the column for being damaged and shorting out I'm not sure how you'd be able to easily diagnose this. I don't have the service manuals with me right now and not sure if something like this is even covered in diagnostics. I also can't recall if the DIC (driver information center) display is driven directly off the body controller or the instrument cluster, but I'd say those would be a more likely cause than the actual powertrain control module.

Some other random thoughts, has the car ever been jump started? Any electrical problems such as weak battery/alternator, damaged wiring harness, other electrical issues, etc.? Also if it is an '09 and still under warranty I'd take it in and have the dealer look at it.

warranty is up as of 2 months ago...

the cruise set/res works perfectly... it even changes the display to say "cruise engaged" etc ... I am simply unable to function the info button or the arrow button (the enter button). I guess I will disconnect the battery tonight to see if that helps.
