Dipstick popping out and expelling smoke
Dipstick popping out and expelling smoke
Hey guys,
Cars running but only in gimp mode. If I get on the boost my dipstick will expel itself.. At idle a constantly puff puff is coming out of dipstick and top intake hose.
The car will drive at normal temps, but sounds like a subby and a little rough.
I went to get it scanned and only my Maf code came up, which I know about.
What else could cause this smoke to spew out beside hopefully a bad ring?

Usually the subi sound is a bad ring. The dipstick thing is simple. But a new dipstick it's worn out. Lol dsms where known for this , could launch me into space. I had same issue on my talon, bought new dipstick from eBay and it never popped out again

Models:

2004-2006 Saturn Ion Redline
with 2.0L Engine (VIN P - RPO LSJ)
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
CONDITION/CONCERN:
On rare occasions, the engine oil dipstick may become unseated on hard acceleration, resulting in an engine oil leak. If the engine is operated long enough like this, a P0171 DTC could set due to the engine ingesting unmetered air.
This concern is the result of excessive crankcase pressure on hard acceleration. This crankcase pressure may be the result of an intake manifold gasket concern that allows supercharger boost pressure to bypass the intake manifold gasket where it seals around the PCV orifice, which is between the #2 and #3 intake runners.
RECOMMENDATION/INSTRUCTIONS:
If the SI diagnostics do not isolate a cause for this concern, replace the intake manifold gasket using part number 12597855, which contains an updated sealing surface around the PCV orifice. This part number, or any future part number, is designed to address this concern.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Going through the same type of rebuild on mine (which is why I found this thread with a search lol). Only on cyl 1 instead. I'm getting zzp's gen 3 lnf short block and reusing everything else from my current motor. I'm ordering a new timing assembly and head gasket kit from CED which comes with head and intake and exhaust mani gaskets and new head bolts. What other gaskets or bolts or anything else will I need?
