Do I need new rotors???

Yeah, so I'm about 4 months away from my 39 month lease ending on my 06 SS/SC and of course now it happens.

So as I drive, more specifically right when I accelerate out of 1st, I hear this squeaking noise that's definitely high pitched (coming from my front drivers side) and sounds like squeaky brakes. It also happens when I coast. It's definitely metal on metal. I don't think it's the pads needing to be replaced because I know usually when those start going they squeak when you apply the breaks but this does just the opposite. When I apply the bakes the noise actually goes away. but then after let off the brakes it starts squeaking again. Right now it's pretty intermittent.

Anyways I just hit 38k miles and haven't replaced my pads, or rotors yet, because obviously haven't had anything happen, I know generally the rule of thumb is every 36k miles.

What do you guys think? Am I looking at needing a new rotor?

So why would you think rotors would make your brakes squeek?

usually when rotors are shot they pullsate when you hit the brakes, if their not warped than that is not the issue

I would say brake pads. They are really easy to do yourself. Also check the rotor surface.

At 38k You will have to change the rotors as well as the pads. The stock rotors dont cost that much and your old ones should be out of spec anyway with that many miles on them but check them.

its DEFINATELY not a rotor dude. they're supposed to last 75k+ miles. its definately the pads. that sound that you hear is the wear indicator. it's only on when you drive normally right. and sorta goes away at speed, right? then stops when you brake?

if so then you needs to change them pads. same thing happened to my explorer. at first i thought it was a bad wheel bearing. changed that and it still happened. lol. take the wheel off and check pad life.

hope i helped

Thanks guys for the help. Yeah just weird because whenever I press on the brakes the noise stops, and yeah it does sound like the typical brake pads needing to be changed because I know what that sound is, but I just thought they are supposed to squeak even louder when you use them. Did that with my Cavy, oh well maybe it's not at that point yet. I checked the rotors and they def aren't warped. lol I know what those look like too haha.

I'm gonna replace the pads this week. Thanks guys.
