Dreaded limp mode
Dreaded limp mode
Well, I got kicked into the dreaded "limp mode" (engine power reduced) today. Just moderately accellerating from a light and BAM! I hear a loud pop and lose about 95% of my power along with getting the message in the DIC. Coasted into a McDonald's parking lot, waited 15 minutes, started it up, sounded like only 1 cylinder was firing and still had the message in the DIC. Wait another 45 minutes, try again, more of the same. I've had something similar happen before about the same time last year, but I could still drive it some, this time it just keeps stalling when I give it gas. When it happened last year, the dealer said that the code had cleared itself and they had no idea what caused it, car ran perfectly fine since then up till now. I've just about run out of patience with this car...
I had a friend give me a ride back to my house. Now I'm going to grab my work van, head back to my car, and start throwing the stock plugs and stage 2 pulley back in (running Pulley Boys 2.8) before I call roadside assistance. I really don't feel like arguing with the dealer if they decide to get snotty about the aftermarket stuff.
It could of been worse, I was almost home from my drive to Ft. Myers for a quick litte job I had to do this morning. I could have been 2.5 hours from home when it happened instead of 5 miles away.
And Sempher55, too many trips to the dealer for problems will make anyone's go limp, age has nothing to do with it...

interesting , shortly after my oil change i had the same problem . i drove like 5 miles to the bank and when i pull out of drivethrough it stalls. im like wtf? i start it and it it stalls everytime i goto move like 5 times. i get it back to dealer by keeping it revved to 2000 rpm's . the porter there could barely get it to the bay. then the tech comes out starts it up and its normal and theyre all looking at me all stupid. its been fine since. felt like it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders that day though.
Update
After the dealer spends half the day looking for my keys (says the tow truck driver never left them), they check my car out and tell me it was just the throttle body sensor popped loose. Strange that I had just driven over 4 hours that day and all of a sudden at 60 mph it just pops out. Even stranger that I didn't notice it when I looked it over after getting the CEL. Convenient for them as they charged me an $80 diagnostic fee ($4.90 for "environmental compliance"?). They pulled 2 codes: P0122 and P0223. They said one is for the throttle body and the other is for "high rpm engine freeze". I was at around 4000-4500 rpm when it threw the CEL.
Of course I got the voided warranty lecture because of the Injen CAI and an argument over the Magneson-Moss act ensued, the dealer insisting the CAI voided my entire warranty
I wish there was a decent Chevy dealer within 100 miles of me...

man dealerships suck let me tell you that and i work at one. Sorry about that one though i wouldnt have paid the fee. I would have said my lawyer will be calling up to explain the magnuson act and dont worry you will be facing a lawsuit. Garuntee that they would have done it for free.

They just blame it on installation error. But it doesn't void the rest of the warranty, brakes, suspension, etc. That's where the argument began.
