E-Brake problem...

I just went to pull my E brake the other day, nothing out of the ordinary, and it just had like zero resistance on it...

Like you can pull it ALL the way up.. I'm not saying like I struggled pulling it up before, but you know there's like a little tention on it... now there's like nothing..

Also, it doesn't work like it did.. Like I can be driving normal, pull it all the way up (I know that's not a good idea, but I just wanted to test it out) and it'd be like me riding the brakes slightly...

I always (did) park my car in neutral with the E brake, and the E brake isn't strong enough to let me park ANYWHERE while in neutral..

Any ideas on what happened? Possibly snapped the cable? idk.. HELPPPPPPP
Thanks!

all the plastic around it where the cupholders are and that area, pop out the plastic and you will probably find the cable loose.

Does it pop out just like the dash trim?

Adjust the cable first. And yes, it pops out. Much easier than the dash trim.

Now I feel like a ******* idiot... just went out there, popped the pieces off easily.... and saw one of the cables was unhooked from that little bracket thing.. hooked it back up and i'm good.. pulled the e brake a couple times and it popped back out.. just put zip ties in there and they appear to be holding for now.. when zip ties snap, i'll actually just put some force into it and bend the bracket thing

If you tighten the nut on the cable itself, it'll hold it in the bracket. There shouldn't be a need to bend anything.

Okay, heed this caution, I had this exact same thing happen to me like 2+ years ago and I thought nothing of it. The e-brake esssentially was inoperable even with the cables inserted into the guide. Finally got around to taking it to the dealership b/c the driveway at my new house is on a hill and it just so happens that my ebrake was dragging on my rotors - ruining my calipers, rotors, and pads. I felt absoluely no drag on the car the entire time i was driving it and now i have to shell out almost $1000 on repairs. Make sure your not getting any drag on the rear wheels.

I parked my car at the top of my driveway... in the morning it was half way into the middle of the street. Apparently my ebrake failed and it turns out they had to replace rear calipers

I've had this problem two times. The first time it was a loose nut (Picture below) the second time my pads just really needed to be replaced.

To get to the bolt you just have to pull the cover off your e-brake handle and it's at the base.

This is why you always put your car in gear...

Could be a caliper issue as well the ebrake mechanism
In the caliper it's self can seize up not allowing the cables to come
Loose after the ebrake is disengaged causing premature pad and rotor
Wear, If that is the case 9xoutta ten you will need
A new caliper

It should be on the passenger side of the e-brake near the base.

Yup. I had the same issue and my car only had 27,000 miles on it. The General Manager and the Service Department manager told me it that the e-brake was never designed to stop the car from rolling down a hill while not in gear

I called up GM and complained to them that it was a safety hazard. Took the car back in and they replaced the calipers and pads under warranty and what do you know?! I barely pull up on the e-brake and the rear wheels lock up completely. Yup, definitely wasn't suppose to do that from factory
