I have an 09 SS/TC that has a engine rattle at idle. I've searched several threads concerning engine rattles but can't find one that has similar symptoms as mine.

It makes a rattle at idle that comes from the engine bay. You can only hear the rattle from inside the car or when your are laying directly under it. The rattle goes away when the engine is rev'd so I don't hear it when the car is being driven or on cold starts. It does sometimes go away or reduce in severity for a short time.

When the rattle first showed up I thought it was an exhaust rattle but I was weeks from putting new exhaust on it so I waited to do that. After the new exhaust was installed the rattle appeared again. I also thought that maybe with my bolt ons that the engine is just running a bit rough but the rattle did not go away after getting the trifecta tune. I've crawled under the car with it running and I know for sure it's not the heat shield but I haven't been able to get it on a lift yet to really get a good look up by the firewall.

Any ideas?

73,000 miles, 3" turbo back with res and muffler, no cat, injen upper charge pipe, and injen cold air.

I will try and get the sound on video if it would help.

 

In for info. I have the same issue. Very faint. If I rev at all it goes away. Seems to be coming from the passenger front while I'm sitting in my car at idle. Walking around I can't hear it. Only inside the car.

My cars hood will rattle on some cold starts during cat warm up.

Latch may need to be moved down slightly.

Also when under load driving through standing water the rear flange of my TurboXS downpipe hits the heat shield.
