Fidanza flywheel sucks
Well I've talked to a few people who have the same issue and say it's not very good but whatever. I was thinking eventually going back to stock flywheel but I'll see how long this setup lasts. Don't you miss my help needed posts cluelessk? Haha
The flywheel is completely separated from the transmission when you shift so cluelessk is right. The main effect of the lighter flywheel is the revs drop faster when you lift throttle and clutch in, or revs quicker when you blip the throttle with clutch in. There's so much mass in the system when clutch is engaged that it wouldn't do much otherwise.
Sure it's not the shift by cable system these cars have or the cable bracket worn out? I drove a friend's LNF with a southbound 4+ on a fidanza and it shifted fine when railing it. But in traffic it was a bit more of a pain I the ass
a heavy clutch disc, like most aftermarket discs are is more likely to be causing the shifting problems. another thing could be the oil that was put into the transmission at the time the clutch and flywheel was installed.
ive had 2 fidanza flywheels, not very happy with either. have on in my ss/sc, i have to have the idle quite a bit higher, it idles rough with the a/c on, and it makes the motor a little too snappy with the ls4 throttle body (i know that in itself gives far more throttle response, but with the light flywheel its worse). quality is fine, really this is all typical of light flywheels. shifting performance is just fine, no issues at all.
on the 2.2l ecotec swapped car i had a fidanza and the ring gear failed. the ring gear was always very noisy, then it lost a tooth, and shortly after lost about 6 teeth off another spot. the car also had to idle quite high and was very "rattly" feeling. when the flywheel failed i put an exedy light chromoly flywheel on, fixed all the issues. it was a good balance between stock and lightweight in both performance and comfort.
