First CEL
Well yesterday, I got an updated tune put on the car, and me and a couple fellow members were driving around, it felt fine at first. I stopped to get some starbucks, soooooooo many stupid Harry Potter kids in there but anyways, and got back in the car to start the log over again since the car had been shut off. For some reason the HPT wouldn't work at all, it wasn't doing anything. So we were driving up the street, I stepped on it a little bit a couple times, and then cruising at about 40 I'm preeeeeeeetty positive it misfired. My gas level and rpms dropped to 0 and then shot back up to normal real quick, car didn't hesitate or anything though, and the CEL came on.
Went back to the house, but the code scanner just wouldn't hook up to my car, and HPT wouldn't either. It actually wouldn't connect with any car. Is it possible my car fried the cable? So basically I have no idea what the code is but I'm going to find out at lunch. Dropped the other guy off at his house, he ripped his interceptor out from his car and plugged it into mine. It said no fault detected...hmm weird. It seemed to be running really rich though. He cleared the code, I drove back home no misfires, and I drove all the way to work today and it was fine. Now I can't even get my old tune put back on without the cable.
So did I have a major misfire or what? Help appreciated...I will of course update this once I figure out what the code is.

I really hope so....I'd feel so bad if his cable got completely shot. But it started not working before that happened....so I dunno!

if you post here most of us like myself have access to the definition of the codes. i don't think we have a thread dedicated to all the possible cel's there are as there a lot of them.
ya i can imagine. most likely if you were having misfires the code is gonna be atleast p0300 and possibily others depending on what caused the misfire. but let us know what the code is and we can help ya in any way and ya i doubt the cord is bad but i would double check your cigarette lighter fuse (it controls the power to your obdII port) to make sure its not blown and have the guy with HPT reinstall and go from there.
Oh certainly isn't me! lol I don't want to post that stuff here, I emailed him hopefully he'll lemme know what's going on with everything!
Andrew was loading everything on for me, and I feel horrible that his cable isn't working now.
Ok so my friend came to my work to scan the car. His laptop connected to my car just fine(so my diagnostic port should be fine right?) and it didn't find any codes, or any pending codes. Now is it true that if it misfired and the code was cleared that it would still be stored on the ECU? We drove it around for a few miles pushed it hard and it was just great, no lights or anything.

ya your car will set a history code which unless cleared by disconnecting the battery or with a tech 2 will not go out. but if the cable was glitching up it may have produced some false positives and was playing a trick on you. since you say you drove it pretty good and no misfires or any other lights i wouldn't worry about it.
