First Date Nightmare
First Date Nightmare
So I'm on a first date and we are driving back from dinner and as I am driving down the road I notice a huge ball of snow/ice in the middle of my lane. I can't get over so I slow down and proceed to drive over the damn thing. Bad Idea. It sounded as if I ran over a bowling ball. After I hit the thing my coolant light came on and my temps went through the roof. I was able to get it to a garage and see the damage in the light. I dented in the bottom of the radiator and destroyed the plastic air dam. I was not able to see any holes in the radiator but felt a slight crack in the back. I then poured water in the coolant tank and watched to see where it drained from. Within seconds the entire tank drained not from the dent in the radiator but from the side area of the radiator, but due to the way the frame is on the car I could not see where exactly it was draining from but where it poured from the frame instead. Any ideas on what happened and how easy is it to fix or how hard is it? I have attached a pic below.
Haha you guys are awesome. No I did not get any from her, but she did get a lesson in car maintenance 101. When she had to sit at the fire station with me where I work for about two hours while I assessed the damage. To my surprise she never complained once. She might be a keeper lol!
Couldn't have said it better myself, plus the fact that here in MI we have recieved over 116" of snow and there is just no more places to put it all. So the whole underside of my car is covered in ice and slush and have to kind of thaw out first.

I have never added to the coolant tank, but the rule of a over heating car that is hot. You are supposed to have the car running when you put water in it, as not do damage, to the motor. Hopefully you didn't hurt it.
Im more concerned about the fact he dumped straight water in there in the middle of a MN winter...
Well that was my second concern. I just hope he didn't *** things up. You can not add water or coolant in general to a super hot motor, with out running it. I helped a older lady last year, but I made sure it was running. I just pray he didn't mess stuff up.
