Front Bumper Alignment

ive done the searchs and know there is a TSB for the alighnment of the front bumper. i have a huge gap on the passenger side headlight. i also have some paint chipping where the drivers side quarter panel and the front bumper meet. last time i was at the dealer i showed this to them and they did a spot paint (which looked like ****). i also informed them that there was a tsb for the alignment and even offered to give them the number. he declined taking the number and said he would look it up. well he said there was no tsb and that he couldnt fix the problem and now the place where they did the spot paint is chipping again. wtf should i do now?

I manage a collision center and have worked on a couple of these cars already. They are all off and it is not just our cars. Just about every car with a plastic bumper cover does not fit perfectly. Don't worry about it.

I just looked it up and I can't find the tsb anywhere if someobody's got the number I can look it up by that. My cobalt has the same problem I've heard of guys lowering the brace that is below the headlamp. I'm gonna have to take it apart at some point and take a look. If there is a tsb it's pretty well hidden. I'll look some more later on. But gm has tsb and warranty info on all kinds of stuff so it takes a while to find stuff sometimes.

PLEASE HELP, cause I have the exact same problem, except that dealing with GM Customer Service is getting me nowhere, but looking to trade the car in.

Subject: Gaps In THe Front Fascia To The Right Headlamp Assembly - keywords bar beam bracket bumper head impact lamp left #PIC3985B - (09/15/2006)

Models: 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit (Canada Only)

2007 Pontiac G5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This PI was created to add models and change the wording of the repairs. Please discard PIC3985A.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A condition has been identified that there may be an excessive gap between the right headlight assembly and the front Fascia. This condition can be caused by the front bumper beam that was mounted to high.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Please remove the front fascia (Doc # 1552448)
Then loosen and elongate the 3 bolt holes in the bumper beam.
Lower the front bumper beam 4-7 mm then re-tighten the 4 bolts to. 30 Nˇm (22 lb ft)
After tightening the bumper beam reinstall the front Fascia and recheck for proper fit at the headlight assembly.
Note:: The headlight bracket may need to be moved forward also.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

It was under a priliminary information, instead of a bulletin that is why it was harder to find. I'll do this when I get a chance and see if it actually helps. I've heard of others doing it and it has helped them. And to remove the front fascia the document stated just says remove headlamps and remove fascia retaining clips. It won't let me copy the pictures it shows but pretty much you just need to losen the bolts and enlongate them vertically so the bar just sit's a bit lower. it's the beam that goes across the entire front of the car. Hope this helps. If I get a chance to do this I'll try to take some pictures of it when I do it. But go ahead and take your car back to the dealer if you not able to do or want to do this yourself and take them the PI #PIC3589B and they should be able to bring it up on their computers. Remember it's a Prelimanry info bulletin not a Technical Service Bulletin. But it's still proof that there is a "KNOWN" problem and that they should fix it and that it's just not how it's is and that there is nothing you can do about it.

I'm not exactly sure what or where in fact you are talking about the gap is. A pic will help. I know how you feel though the after I bought my car I showed my buddy my car and right of the bat he was have you seen this bump on your pass side bumper. I was like no then I looked at it and was like what the f. It's been on my mind for a while just have not had the time to fix it. Just recently got my GM service info back so I can look at everything gm knows. But from what you said you may have a hood latch adjustment issue but I can't tell without actually looking at it.
