Fuel Filter

Ok Im having the hardest time getting this fuel filter off. It looks like the two lines you just push in the buttons and pull but Im not getting anywhere with them. Also on a side note when I reconnected my battery and repressurized my fuel system I got some smoke when I started it. It went away after about 5mins kinda worried me. Any help would be great thanks.

I have the pack of plastic tools and a metal tool. The problem is that there isn't enough room to fit the tool between the line and filter.

Hold your face as closely as possible to the filter when disconnecting the lines.
