GM Defect screws me
GM Defect screws me
I posted earlier that i Thought my clutch was slipping. When i first got the car, i had issues with the clutch dissengaging. took it to the dealer, they took a look and said nothing was wrong. Well well well here i am 2 months later and 4000 miles and my clutch is gone. Sorry not gone, dead. I drove it normaly tonight and it was slipping them. so i had my friends dad look at it, hes been working with gm for 34 years. he said hes seen things like that happen before but its rare. and when it does happen the owners get screwed 1 because its not their fault, and 2 it stats in the owners maunal that the clutch is not cover in the warrenty because it is wear item. so in other words they screww up and get to walk away scott free, with the extra money you pay for thier mistake. Im sure im not the first but future GM owners with a manual tranny. if you have a problem with anything involing the clutch with in the first day, take it back. I wasnt so lucky. But i can look at it this way, now i just have to by that spec stage 2. but the hole situation still sucks
Sorry to hear that.. It does suck because most people don't have 500 bucks to throw down on a new clutch and then to get it installed... BUT if u have the money i would buy the lightened flywheel too and have it done at the same time but that's just me
It is stated in the manual though... that's like saying hey my brakes need to be changed and i have under 36,000 miles.. i should be covered right? nope. not gonna happen

i dont have the money, i have to borrow it. but i need the car to drive. so if im throwing down 700 or 800 dollars i midas well by the prefomance clutch for the same price and not have this problem again.

that's what i meant.. buy the Spec 2 which i think is 600 and if u can buy the lightened flywheel and do it all at the same time because you'll have it apart
try www.turbotechracing.com.. i bought stuff from there and was very satisfied.. good deals
Can someone please annoy GM with 100 emails stating to FIX OUR CLUTCHES or at least fix them in the new cobalts. Jesus christ, i'm tired of hearing all these people burning their clutches out on stock cars that already know how to drive stick. My clutch is shot as well and it pisses me off. Someone needs to annoy GM, not go to a dealership, but go to GM themselves and just annoy the **** out of them because that's the only way something will be done. I'm so pissed right now about this.
The car has a 1yr/12k mile warranty on *ALL* parts, wear or not. Boyond that, you've got your work cut out for you, but you should still be able to have that clutch replaced for free. Every part GM sells has that warranty, therefore it also applies to the car as a whole. Fight for it!

Believe me buddy, i feel your pain. my coby SS/SC clutch went out after ONE week and only 300-400miles on it....but my dealer fixed it "under good faith"(********) and no probs so far and i almost have 3000miles....but best of luck with everything man and im sorry to hear about another clutch problem with the cobalt.

this includes tires also. My dads car is leaking a little bit of air in the back left (hes got some psi reader that came with the car) and the tire is covered under warranty...i dont think you can get more wear and tear than a tire. And its covered.

I shift aggressivly sometimes but i NEVER slip the clutch going into a gear.. That is the worst thing for the car. Also when I down shift I rev match so it's less strain on the clutch and engine.

Good luck.
if they give you any problems carry your warranty book in with you its got the information about the 1 year warranty items, they cant argue with something that gm wrote, if they arent able to honor it, then call gm directly and ask them why its in your warranty book and they wont honor what it is
With only 4000 miles, your clutch is most likely covered. Assuming the vehicle is basically stock and the tires show no signs of burning rubber
Now IF you have a repeat condition in, say another 4000 miles your flagged. I see clutch abuse all the time, and always the driver is in denial.
Just last week saw some asz-clown waiting for the light to change on a slight incline, using the clutch to stop from rolling back. I wanted to get out of the car and smack him.
