Header DP Install
yep. I just mean like if I went out and bought jack stands or ramps, plus a jack I'd have nowhere to keep em. lol. my place is REEEALLLYY tiny and its' full to the max. lol ( I live with my fiance... nuff said?
)
)
no, I know what ramps are but thanks. I just think it will wind up better if I take it to a shop because I'll have to wait till spring since my parking lot isn't plowed at all.
Get the Rhino low profile ramps at Pep boys or Wal Mart. They just clear the front bumper. If your car is lowered, than that is another story. I am leary of having anyone do something to my car that I can do, even if it might be a bit of a challenge. Think about gettting a small storage unit to store your tools at. There is even the possibility of having the space at the storage facility to do what ever project you have going on. Now is the time to buy tools with all the post xmas sales going on. My header install in the basement on ramps was about a two hour affair. Make sure you have a sensor socket to get that out without half assing it.
lol was definately gonna half ass most of it
I know what you mean. I had the dealership do a few things when I first started out ( gmpp exhaust, etc..) and I'll never do that again, I just figured that something like this would be a fairly easy thing to get done for a few bucks by someone who had all the tools and the space to do it readily available...but I guess not. lol

well, it's half and half really. I wanted to do it, when I was going to be in a garage under a lift with all the tools and time I needed. Now that it fell through, a large part of me is saying do you want to go through the trouble to buy the jacks/ramps, etc and mess around with them to still have to crawl under the car and "half ass" it with the limited tools I have, or just pay a garage to do it. which looks best to you

Quality tools are always an investment, and you will always have them, unless you loan them to someone who forgets to return them. If you have to do this in the elements with snow, rain, mud, etc. then I would say don't bother. But if you have a friend with a garage or carport that will let you use it for a couple hours, go for it. Once finished you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you did it yourself and that you did it RIGHT! Tools=100 bucks. Time=couple hours. Knowing YOU did it=PRICELESS
One other thing if you go for it, get a creeper. If you do it on pavement get a tarp and blanket for comfort. Check Harbor Freight for the creeper. Really inexpensive.

nice, way to work in some credit card marketing there
like I said b4 I "had" garages, 3 separate ones in fact to work in, and they all fell through. I may try to use my fiance's grandfathers garage again tho, you guys got me feelin frisky with the balt lol. plus like ya said if I can spend 100 bucks on tools etc, then I'll have them, and it's still almost 100 bucks cheaper than paying someone.
it helps to have friends who work at shops...but if you don't and plan on installing them yourself, be prepared to have a few backup bolts ready. One of my header bolts snapped when it was undone. Also the bolts on the downpipe are hard to get at without a long extension and using an airgun really helps.
