Headlight went out
Headlight went out
Ok, I know jack about headlights. The high's still work but lows dont...they are only like 4 months old. I bough silverstars for like 38 bucks im not very happy. Do I need a new one or is it wiring?? Sorry Im a NOOB with this stuff
My head lights just went out too....it was the wiring. Just pop the hood and turn your lights on...reach behind the casing and wiggle **** around and see if they flicker...If they do soder them.
sounds like its just a bulb. highs and lows integrated in the 9007, every time i've blown a low, the high has been good. if it were wiring alone, i think you'd lose both.
if your car is like mine, it'll eat headlights.
i get 3-4 months out of silverstars. about 6 out of the piaa hyper whites. the brighter bulbs burn hotter, and burn their filaments quicker.
if you're looking for a brighter bulb, the philips crystal vision plus lasted me about a year and a half. that was the longest i've gotten out of any set.

oh boy, mine did that when i baught aftermarket bulbs for it... and lets just say i havent had the cobalt for over a month now becuz some wireing harness melted and GM is to poor to make them or something.. lol
Nope didnt touch it and I havent had the time to check the wiring. Hmm can you get the phillips in stores like autozone or walmart? thats where got the silverstars. Freaking sucks haha
I went through 3 sets of Silverstars, the lows always blow out in like 3-4 months. For like $50 a pair the bulbs are garbage. The lighting is very good, the highbeams on dark mountain roads made me feel like it was the middle of the day, but for the short life I just can't justify them. After Silverstars I made the switch to Luminics bulbs. They look great and *knock on wood* haven't burned out yet. It's been like 4 months.
^dude sodering is easy as ****. Just tried it for the 1st time last night and its just a hot piece of metal that melts onto 2 wires that are twisted. Metal dries in liek 2 seconds and then its hard as **** and your good to go

Think about it.....when you have your lights on, they are on low beam 90+% of the time so they are almost guaranteed to burn out first.
The brighter bulbs do burn out quicker, there is no free lunch. Want them to last longer, get the standard Sylvania or Phillips bulbs. Want to see better, be prepared to be changing bulbs more often.

i had both of my headlights go out at the same time. i could have sworn it was the wiring, but it was just that both went out at the exact same time. i really want some "white" bulbs.
Your SilverStars or SilverStar Ultras are just ricer bulbs. Please do not base the quality of the XtraVision based on your experience with the sh*tty SilverStar bulbs. If you ask Sylvania, even they will tell you that the SilverStars don't last very long.
Give the XtraVision a try, they're $18/pair at Wal-Mart. I used them for 6 years on my Crown Vic (9007) and I use them all the time since I drive in the early morning (oh dark hundred hours) and at late night.
I noticed the Cobalt wiring diagrams indicate they have separate relays for the low and high beams, which is already 90% of the upgrades I would have done to boost light output.
You didn't use the XtraVisions. OEM bulbs are usually Sylvania standard or Long Life. The XtraVision are brighter bulbs with OEM-like lifespans.

The SilverStars aren't that much brighter than stock according to Sylvania! The bulbs cannot be brighter in order to comply with FMVSS regulations. The biggest difference with the SilverStars is the gas mixture. It is closer to a white light (4000K or so) and as such, it burns hotter which contributes to a MUCH shorter lifespan (about 400 hours IIRC). The SilverStar Ultra is supposed to be better but even Sylvania recommends their XtraVision if you want more light with the same lifespan as stock bulbs.
As for the light output, the XtraVisions are still a 3200K halogen white light (slightly yellow) but they're noticeably brighter than stock Sylvania LongLife (LL) or standard. The SilverStars trick your brain into thinking it is brighter because of the white color (4000K). The human eye perceives white light quite differently from yellow light.
PIAA, Nokya, and other manufacturers of tinted bulbs are just selling you overpriced junk. I would recommend you give the Sylvania XtraVision 9007 a try since they're generally available at Wal-Mart for under $20/pair. When I last saw them they were about $18/pair. Make sure you clean the glass with isopropyl alcohol, make sure it is free of lint, and AVOID TOUCHING the glass at all costs. I would also look at the headlight alignment and consider disabling the DRL's to reduce the wear on the low beams.
