my car has 56,000kms and for some reason it just started to make a noise in first gear.
when i let ff the gas in first gear it makes a whining noise.
i took it to gm and they said. 1st gear noise is normal gear reduction noise.
my problem with there anwser is it has never made this nosie be for.
any thoughts?

Maybe its ABnormal gear reduction noise? My car has 72000 miles on it and I hear new noises daily! Every day is a new adventure! = )

 

How loud is it.
A litttle coast down noise is normal.

Maybe you just didn't pay attention before? since the day I bought my car brand new it has made a loud and very noticible whine from the gear reduction in 1st gear. My cavalier did the same thing, so it must be normal.

 

but why would it not start making the noise till 56k

 

Like stated above, you prolly just never noticed it before. I also have had this same noise since the day I bought my car brand new. Its totally normal, and every car does it. Some are just more loud than others. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you cuz what ur describing sounds totally normal
