On my way to work today, my car decided to start getting high coolant temps and there's a non-rpm dependent tick. I can't tell where the tick is originating because of all the metal. At idle with my heater on high, temps went down to around 200. But driving about a mile, very slowly. It jumped up as high as 249. I'm not losing any coolant at all nor throwing any codes out of the ordinary. I'm gonna pull my valve cover on lunch and check if anything in the head. There was a significant loss of power but the car sounds normal besides the ticking... n anyone give me an idea?
I don't know, hows your oil level? Are the fans kicking on? Is your thermostadt opening? Is your water pump functioning? Is your radiator clogged with bugs, or a paperbag. My cusion had his radiator clogged with a paper bag or a peice of cardboard box once.
Oil fine, fan works, thermostat yes, radiator is not clogged. I'm thinking somehow the balance shaft timing chain came loose and isn't spinning the water pump as well as it should. Head looks fine, pulled the valve cover off
If you just changed the coolant or thermostat, could have a air lock or the parts guy gave you the wrong one.
The new one may be getting hung up or not working properly.
The water pumps mechanical think it's highly unlikely but could be.
To help pin point the ticking you can use a mechanics stethascope (cheap to buy) or use a long screw driver
Held to your ear and place the tip against the suspected areas.( take care of the revolving parts)

It's either the balance shaft chain guide or the tensioner fell off. Took off the water pump cover and a lot of slack in the chain. Gotta leave it at work overnight and hopefully fix tomorrow
