SS or regular Cobalt? So your shifter cable bracket on the transmission is solid and doesn't wiggle at all? Have you ever messed with the shift mechanism itself? Cables could be loose up by the shift lever. If it's not your trans then it has to either be your lever, cables, or bracket.

Hard to guess without more information. If your shifter, shifter cables, and mount are all fastened down and working correctly then you could have a problem with your transmission. You will have to do some investigating to narrow down what it isn't.
