I am new to this site. I have a 2005 cobalt sssc. Well here's my issue, I was casually driving a few days ago, not beating on it, next thing I knew I couldn't shift, the trans has been rebuilt, I put a new clutch in it less than 6000 miles ago. I tracked it to bring the shift cables, I tried to adjust the clamps and in doing so, broke a clamp. I have new cables onthe way but can not finda part number for the clamps, does anybody have a break down on the shift assembly? And if so, a gm part number?? I have a parts break down and job guide straight from Chevrolet but no numbers. Please help.

No.

Also, we would probably advise against Hurst.

Newer, cheaper, and better short throw shifters have come out including BPS, OTTP, and TWM.

 

Thanks! Id hate to get a short shifter and it never be right, how hard is it to get the cables balanced right? ive always had rwd so I never had to worry about balance, in order to get it into gears that is. whats the easiest way to get it right?

So out of the three short shifters, which is the best bang for the buck? Haven't even had car for a year and already had to pput a lot of money into it but now it's time for upgrading. Not just replacing.

BPS for the money, by far.

You're able to use your stock shift knob with their shifter, until you decide to grab one of their shift knobs which are great. I recommend the 300 series.

 

Well, I know its been awhile since I've been on here. the soft cables didn't fix it. I pulled the transmission, and the clutch exploded. I don't mean cracked or broken, springs, rivets, clutch disk, and pressure plate all separated. Not worn at all, flywheel is still brand new. Neways. I would love to do more performance upgrades but just trying to keep it together is costing me a fortune.

What clutch was it?

 

It is an oem replacement clutch from a local parts store that I know for a fact receives some parts from. It is a brute force. When I bought the car, it was beat to crap and now I'm paying the price for it. The car was lowered with hnr springs. And I have a feeling that might have something to do with it. I did an alignment on it and these cars have no adjustment for camber/caster without mods. And when you lower it to the max, your changing dimensions of the control arms, axles, suspension, all putting additional stress on the clutch and trans. The first clutch I put in blew apart in 4 months. The car doesn't have many mods besides injen cai, Magnaflow cat back exhaust, and the lowering kit. I just put new timing chains, all 6 guides, and both tensioners. Along with the water pump and now the motor is making all kinds of noise but goes away after driving for about 15 minutes. I'm 14 hours from ohio so I hope I make it back. Once I get back, I'm ripping it apart to find where to drop more money just to keep this thing going.
