Help Stock stereo died

Anyone have any advice? I parked my car about a week ago ejected a CD from it when I parked it no problems working great. Got in it today and Nothing comes on. No stereo, no cd player, wont show the time, NOTHING. Everything else in the car works great.....of course I just went over my warranty

check your fuses. I dont know what else is on the fuse with the radio but that might be your problem and it is definetly the first thing I would look at...

is it just me but the in dash fuse box illustration doesnt match my fuse box

im not sure... You could use a test light to check the fuses, of course you would have to know which ones should be on and what not, or go grab a small pair of needle nose pliers and get pulling. Just checkl them all, if one is blown, you will know it. It will be smoked in the pastic and the little metallic connecting band between the two sides of the fuse will be seperated.

yeah, ihad that same thing in my cavy. it was a fuse, but it kept blowing everytime u tried putting a new on in, there was a short some where we couldnt find. watch out for that.

If its a short there are a ton of different options but the easiest solution would to probably just run another power wire to the back of your stereo, assuming that your stereo is not the short. Just go check the damn fuse before you get all worried.

no man and like i said it worked when i parked it last week got in it today and it never came on doubt its a short....it did sit through our mini blizzard we just had here in columbus

wonder if it could somehow be the ignition?

Take the deck out of there and check the wires to see if they are getting power and check your connections to the deck. If your getting power then maybe your deck is shot. There might be a fuse in your deck like with aftermarket decks but im not sure. Rule out all of the easy **** then get a new deck.

my mechanic just said it could be because the radio took a **** too the short could be the radio....he said if it was a major short the fuse would blow a little spark means its prolly the radio

I have an electrical engineering degree, i like it, the problem is to pin point exactly what is going on you need to get in there with a multimeter and start testing your brains out, also you could open up the radio and see if you find and scorch or burn marks, thats would be a good identifier.

it sucks trust me i know, i was having what i thought was abattery issue last week with my cobalt, it ended up not being, but it took hours to narrow it down

You can always check for a short by disconnecting the positive terminal from the battery and with a circut tester have one end on the positive terminal on the battery and the other end(alligator clip or probe end) touching the terminal of the wire. If the light on the circut tester turns on you have a short. This works because the power wire will be grounded somewhere if you have a short so it is in essence acting like a ground wire, therefor shorting out and draining the battery. It is the single easiest way to find out if you have a short anywhere that hasnt blown a fuse. Obviously, the car must not be running.

well ok as i said before when i inserted the fuse it would spark just a little but not blow the fuse when i disconnect the radio is no longer sparks.........the harness has only one hot wire even with the key on which I thought was odd because normally you should have a constant hot and a key on hot my buddy pulled a wiring diagram and it only shows one hot SOOOO that means the radio is gettin power and ground so the short must be the unit itself? any thoughts?

It still might not even be a short. If it was shorting it would be pulling a lot of juice and pop the little 10 or 15 amp fuse or whatever. I could understand if it arched a little bit with the ingition on. I have never heard of a radio having only one hot wire because there is usually two, on for the radio and one for the clock. However, cobalts do have the feature of keeping the radio on after the ignition is off so that one wire might be hot all of the time and its the radio that just turns off and lets the clock run, not the ignition. With it turning on and not having any sound, that would be a short with one of the speakers or a mechanical failure of the radio, but with the radio just not turning on at all and you have confirmed that it is getting power, I would think that it has to be that the radio just took a ****...

Radio could have just died. I had an HHR at work last weeked and that was the case. If the fuses are good. remove the radio and Check for power and ground at the harness connectors. If you have power and ground. the factory radio **** out. Hope that helps.

have ground and i have one hot wire thats it even with the ignition on there is only one hot wire but i just looked at the wiring diagram there is only ONE hot wire which is weird but anyways there is one hot wire that is always hot with the ignition on or off

guess its just the radio which im glad like i said before if it was a short somewhere id blow my brains out right there in the drivers seat

by the way thank you guys for helping me been great
