Horn honks until car is started
Horn honks until car is started
Hey guys what's up?
My Mom is having a problem with her horn on her base model Cobalt. She does not have a keypad for the electronic lock/unlock. Every time she unlocks the car with the key, the horn will honk until the car is started.
Is there a way to make it not do this?
Thanks

I think u can shut that off...but not sure. Try this. Shut the car off but turn the key so the accessories are on. Push both your computer buttons (the ones to scroll through your info on your dash) till it goes to options. In there you can shut off and turn on all kinds of options.

There IS a way around this, but it's a little tricky especially if you have passengers.
When she goes to get out of the car, just pop the door open enough to release the latch, then hit the lock. She should NOT hear the warning chime that tells you the doors will auto lock. If you do it this way, it does not beep the next time you unlock the car with the key.
If you have passengers, just make sure they're all out and their doors are closed before you get out and lock the door.
Look into getting her a key fob. They're not too too expensive so long as you don't buy one from the dealership, then you can take it in to get programmed. If she bought the car and the dealer didn't give her a key fob to begin with, then I think I'd raise a little hell with them to give her one since obviously it's supposed to have one.

yeah, look on ebay, def dont go to dealer. im a porter at a Chevy dealer and the tech next to where we stand programmed a new FOB for a base cobalt and the key FOB alone was like $65! screw that!
no u can do this without the fob and turn it off.. the computer needs to learn it though..
if you lock it from the inside with the door open by the door lock, it wont beep when u unlock it with the key.
also after a certain amount of opening it with the key, it will learn and not beep anymore
