i need little help and advice

Hey guys iv posted about week ago about the oil spots showing in and around my oil filter cap...I cleaned the area and the next day there was more..well yesterday I was doing some work on the car and cleaning when I looked up under the engine...where the mount is, its covered in oil and I can see from driving how its come back towards the oil pan..I'm thinking its coming from the oil filter cap and the seal not being properly set.. I just need some advice or input of were else it could possibly come from.. I will try to post some pics later to get a good idea of what I'm talking about..but the seal...does it go all the back on the last thread..near the cap? Thanks

first thing i would do is replace the o-ring in the cap.....they should come with oil filters right off the shelf...make sure its torqued down....that would be my best guess without any pictures

I am having this same problem. I got a replacement cap (including the o-ring seal) for about $15 from the dealership. The dealership claims that the seal breaks down over time.

I am going to replace it the next time I change my oil, which should be in the next week or two.

You don't need a cap. The filters you buy at the autoparts stores come with a replacement o-ring.

Ok thx guys for the input I'm going to be changing the oil pretty soon and will clean the mess up and see what happens...I'm going to look in the owners Manuel but is there a specific torque for the cap?

You probably over tightened the cap!(it could be cracked look closely where the oil is getting out)
The cap torque is 18 ft/lbs.(It's not very tight ,it's not sealed that way)
If your cap is leaking it could be the O ring but my cars 6 years old and I've never replaced it with no leaks.
Take a good look at the cap is it sitting flat if not it might be slightly cross threaded and you need a new cap.
(Look at the threads on the plastic cap if cross threaded you can tell)

When reinstalling the cap I find it best to turn it slowly backwards with a little downward pressure until you feel the threads engage and then threaded it by hand the rest of the way using the extension.
Once down all the way I use a torque wrench.
Ps :the oil plug is the same torque .
