How can I get the Stage 2 factory tune out back on?
I have the stage 2 upgrade on my car and have an aftermarket tune on it. I've been having some issues lately and want to reinstall the canned tune from the GM stage 2 reflash back on my car, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.
I took it to the dealership and they told me they wouldn't touch it because they were worried about the liability if something goes wrong.
I'm thinking about trying to push that again, but in case they still refuse to, what alternative do I have?
I can't find any local tuners here in Austin, so I'm kinda sweating how to go about this.
Any advice? Or advice on how to approach the dealership about putting the canned tune back on?

That's the problem though. I can't find anyone that will tune in my area. I might have luck in San Antonio which is a ways away.
And after possibly getting burned with my previous custom tune, I'd rather just play it safe and go back to the canned tune

Yeah, it's frustrating that they turned me away last time I asked. I mean, they're just putting on a GM product that was already on there before.
I honestly think the tech wasn't even sure what I was asking for.

They should be able to reflash you no problem, as long as you still have the GM 42lb injectors.
Are the mods in your sig accurate? If so, they will be fine to have on if reflashed back to GMS2.
Like Bluelightning said, find another dealership, or explain whats done to the car.

Yeah, signature is accurate.
I'm thinking if I just go in here and act as if I've done it before, they'd be more likely to do it.
What's the name of the tool they use? The scan tech? I want to be able to explain to them exactly what they need to do, so there's no question about it and how simple it is for them to do.

They need the code for the file that comes in the stage 2 package. He already used his, so unless he buys another kit, they cant. They do not just have the ability to put it on.
Do you have HP tuners OP?
Do you know some one who does and will let you use it?
Is it PRO and do you have a wideband to hook up?

Blue, thank you for the feedback!!
I do not have HP tuners, and I'm having trouble locating someone that does surprisingly. I think I have someone in the area, but I'm not even sure I can make it there, not to mention he kinda told me he couldn't help since he didn't know how to acquire the stage 2 flash
I do not have wide and unfortunately.

I have a couple leads on a few that might work, but I can't find any feedback on repuability, and the 2 that I have talked to tried to point me in other directions since they've never worked with cobalts or 4-bangers in general.
It's really frustrating because a reflash should be a super simple process, but it's proving to be really difficult.

When I worked at a powersports dealership they did that "need a code" stuff all the time for tunes. Once it was a thing of the past just emailing the manufacturer got me ways around it.

How can I get the Stage 2 factory tune out back on?
Best thing to do is get hptuners used off ebay and have someone remote tune you. If you dont want to spend that much and the dealer wont reflash you, then you can go for the canned zzp tune temporarily until you save enough for hptuners.

If he still has the verification code to his original kit, they can/should reflash it.
It isn't a one time use to the original purchaser. It is vin specific, and as long as he can provide them with the original verification code, he should be fine.
Maybe I missed where he said he doesn't have any of this info.....

If you had stg2 put on at a dealer in the past the calibration will be in the programming software we use. Once its unlocked its available for good unless you upgrade to stg 3 gm. You don't need a verification code. Problem is finding a dealer that has done one before because most places don't even know about the gm performance tunes that are available.
You can tell them it should pull up the ecu calibration in tis2web and say something about the stage tune in the calibration info.

Well, the "custom tune" was actually a tune for another cobalt with identical mods that he loaded onto my car. He said it was a rather conservative tune as the guy was still trying to maintain the daily-driver aspect of the car. But in hindsight, the dude might have been bullshitting me. He only charged me the fee to unlock the car, and like $50 on top of that or something. It was years ago, so I can't quite remember.
Great info Kolt! So I should be able to go to the dealership and tell them to use the tech 2 tool to upload the canned tune, and they won't need a verification code or anything? They just have to "pull up the ecu calibration in tis2web?"
This is all definitely going way over my head lol

That's if you had purchased the kit and had a dealer install the gm stage 2 kit and tune in the past on that particular car. If you have then yes they can pull it up by doing a sps programming in tis2web. If not then they wont be able to, the tunes from gm are vin specific and only unlocked after a customer has purchased the kit and the dealer has called techline to get the tune unlocked for that particular vin. But anyway they probably would use the mdi to program it rather than a tech2. I don't even use a tech 2 at work anymore. We have the tech2 software on laptops and use a mdi as a interface to do everything wirelessly lol.
Personally I have a vin to a gms1 installed lnf that I am going to use to put on my car when I get the 3bar kit put on. When I pull up the ecu calibrations to program my car with that vin there isn't any other option other than the gm performance tune, the stock tune for that car isn't available basically, but each car is different. Some cars have different calibrations based on rpo's, country of manufacture/assembly and since I haven't put a ss/sc tune on before I cant be sure if there are options when they program yours or if the only one available is the stg2
