Question I went through a Large puddle and now have valve clicks...

So I went through a large puddle and sucked in some water through my cold air intake. It was an awful decision, I know... Anyway once my electrical went back to normal (weird connections issues that dried out), and then I slowly got the water out of my engine by turning it over and suctioning the water out with a pump, now it makes a clicking noise. The noise is pretty loud and it sounds like it is only one of the valves.

My questions are, is it safe to drive on? And I assume I need to at least replace all the valves to be safe. I don't mind doing this but is there anything else I should be replacing at the same time?

Thank you in advance.

You probably hydro locked the engine, or are about to.

It was more or less hydrolocked. It wouldn't run until I pumped the water out of the cylinder via a hand pump and the starter.

It does run now.

I had literally changed the oil the day before and there shouldn't had been water directly where any oil is. But I will change it asap still. I checked it and it looks brand new and not milky at least.

I just wonder if the valves all need changing or just the one that is ticking. Or if I am going to need a whole new head or something funky like that.

If the valve is making a tick, I wouldn't advise driving it. Guys with ls7's (corvette c6 z06's) have the same problem. The valve drops, and brakes the piston, and most of the time cracks the block( same thing might happen to you) . And if you have the head off, you might as well change all the valves right , while your there ?

If your in a situation where valves need changing, you need a new motor. It's more then likely there is a damaged piston or slightly tweaked rod.

Well I was under very low load going through the puddle and barely stalled out once I was out of it. I hope I do not need a whole new engine. I am just going to replace the valves and hopefully that will do the trick. Of course I will inspect everything else while I am in there but I doubt there is any piston or other damage. It just seems like one of the valves couldn't handle the extra pressure when the water first came in.

Anyway thank you for the help everyone. I will keep you all updated and we will see what went down in the end. Hopefully no rods are flying through my engine anytime soon. Definitely just knocked on wood.

Before I touched anything I would report it to your insurance company and see if they will pay. If so you will likely get a used engine rather than a new one but it would be free other than your deductible.

So I got the new parts etc. I opened up my valve cover and the cams are rusted and done with. SO I am getting new cams it looks like.

Any suggestion on the cheapest way of replacing them? I wouldn't mind an upgrade but that plus new springs is pricey.

Hey! Talking cams here. Very serious business. Should I just go with zzp stage 2's and some 75#ers?
