Instrument Cluster Problems...

So I have been having this issue where it will randomly do this. You will be driving and all the sudden bam! The gauges stop working (MPH & RPM's) you will get in the DIC a "Power Steering" error come across, the security light comes on and it also tells you low fuel. The gauges will then spike and do some random weird s*** like have 0 readings then pulse a bit and then have no reading again. This process happens for 5 minutes before it finally resumes normally but at that point the security light just stays lit solid.

BTW, I only have 765 miles left on extended warranty.

I checked all the connections, the cluster is firm, the fuses are OK and other than my wideband wired to an independent source I am at a loss of words. I have nothing else in the car, it's all stock in terms of electrical. No crazy Stero system.

Also you will hear the ding ding chime that lets you know something is wrong, I revved the car to show you that the gauge isn't working and I was doing 45 mph when all this happened.

Enjoy! Gimme your input.

been there done that. Doesn't do anything. Flashing to stock does the same thing. BTW, the cluster was already replaced once.

i vote take it to the dealer, i don't think they would question it as it is no performance related.

I would but it's not covered under extended warranty and the fact that they will charge $300 just to tell me what's wrong and then getting the actual fix is more. Was looking to see if anyone had a similar issue

Oh... you mean like this:

Haha, been there had that problem. My Solution? Don't have one yet. It'll do it for a week or two... and then go away for 2 or 3 months.

I've been told that if you replace the Body Control Module (which is in the steering column) the problem goes away.

You can buy one from GMPartsDirect.com... lemme find the link.

Can't link it... but its $195 plus shipping.

I love how the ****** costs $200 and you won't know if it fixes it and then on top of that you cannot send it back.. without a restocking fee I am sure.

i had the same problem with my car. Luckily, i have 2 friends who are GM mechanics, so they looked at my car and told me that my radio was shorting out the dash/ecu. so we removed my stock CD Headunit and my car works fine.

Yes, the stock Head unit sucks. I'm on my 4th.

Well if it is in fact the radio, it would be ok by me anyways since all the problems I've had with it not ejecting cd's and the presets keep resetting on me.

well, there is only one way to find out if thats the issue...pull out your cd headunit and see if your car still does it.

Before my dash started acting stupid, my speakers would randomly cut out. for example, only the right side speakers would work, then those would come on and only the rear speakers would work. then my speakers would sound like they were blown, and then they started working normal again.

I have the same prob in my 05 SS/SC. If i turn the car off while i drive and turn it back on in 5 secs it usually goes away. Then turns off in a period of time.
