Ive had enough no more cobalt ss for me

well as the title states ive had enough with this car i think im gonna trade it in pretty soon so be expecting a parting out sale , the final straw to break the camels back was , 3 nights ago i was driving and i saw this miata turbo fly by me , i was like WTF ?????? (not a speed) so i give it some gas going about 40 in 3rd to try and catch up , so i did and i asked if he wanted to run , bull **** aside we ran i wont both times from a 20 and 40 by 3-5 cars , so after that , i park , go into the store come out start my car , and it sounds like **** , so i drive it home sounding like complete ass pop the hood, and viola , my downpipe broke at the flex joint , like straight up ripped right off the header side collector , so now not only do i not have an aftermarket downpipe , but im running straight header , it sounds like **** , ive had to drive to work the last 2 days (about 8 miles round trip) and today on the last leg of the second trip i threw a cel , a P0137 , and its from having no flow go through the second 02 sensor (or at least i think) so im going back to stock tomorrow , and gonna trade the car in for a used v8 so well see what happens , and last question , what do you think the chances are that the vendor will give me a new downpipe , i mean it only had 5,000-6,000 miles , and was purchased in december , the reason im trading the car in is because i want a low 13 second car that is pretty much stock , i dont want a force inducted factory car even though the 2 i have owned have been supercharged (gtp , cobalt) i just dont like the idea of getting this 14 second car and maxing the **** out of the stock setup (pistons rods, supercharger) and still only be running 13.2 13.1 id rather just start with a car with more potential , i mean to run high 11's in a cobalt would take so much money like ridiculous amounts , when running 11's in a N/A GM v8 is a dime a dozen

thats not really a big deal for wanting to get rid of the car, its not really hurting the car at all and is an easy fix, and its not the cars fault if your aftermarket downpipe broke. yah they should cover it.

Why does everyone think 4cyl cars are so fast? Naturally V8 cars are much faster... these things are built for economy miles.

i wouldn't gve up because something broke on the car while i was tooling on it. sure, i'd be annoyed. but it would be my fault, i tooled on the car. so fix it, make it stronger. seriously, 11's? is that kind of speed necessary to keep you happy? fast cars break stuff.

I'm gonna agree here. Sure you can get a V8 much faster for cheap but trust me they break too. You can get a Z28 and run mid 12s with less money than it would take to get the Cobalt there, but it would only be a few thousand less. Now if you say, "Well I can get a used Camaro and the total will be much less than I spent on the Balt"; well that's true but used Z28s break all of the time.

As the saying goes: Fast, Cheap, and Reliable, you can only have 2 of those PERIOD.

I agree, but if one likes the Cobalt it too can be made fairly quick for not too much money. I built an LT1 up for a Firebird; total I spent around $2500 and the car put down 333WHP, not bad at all. So my point is that if you really like the Cobalt, you could make it just as fast as that Firebird for a few thousand more.

As far as reliability goes; NOBODY should buy a used Z28 or Mustang etc. and expect to be able to run 11s or even low 12s without having any problems. They aren't any more reliable than the Ecotec.

Edit: Oh, and nobody ever said 4 cylinders are SOOO fast. In NA form (No boost on the 4 cylinder) of course the V8 has an advantage because of the extra displacement, but the 4 cylinder can be made fast too. It's all about preferences.

a realistic turbo swap in my opinion would include rods and pistons if im gonna spend a **** load of money to convert im not gonna buy a turbo that makes 300 WHP im gonna buy one that makes at least 400 so i can really benifit

v8=12s 11s car
it also = GAS

and as u can see gas aint going no where but UP, IMO if u really want a 11 12s car just make a dragster and keep the cobalt at 2.9 pully and ****, what u going to do with a 11s car on the streets.

Haha. Yeah, I have a s-10 with a 350 that runs around a 12.2, but it sits in the driveway most of the time because it gets less than 10 mpg. It's a blast to drive and I'd never sell it, but at 3.50 a gallon for gas it's not a daily driver.
