jacking up car
jacking up car
This may be a dumb question, but I have never really had to have all 4 corners of my car off the ground at one time: So I am wondering, how do I safely go about getting my car on jackstands with all 4 wheels off of the car. I am going to be painting my brake calipers with G2 paint. I have been informed this stuff hardens quickly and you have a limited amount of time to work with it. So I need all 4 wheels off, and everything prepped so that I can go around the car and do all 4 calipers.
Look at the side skirts of the car. Behind each front wheel and in front of each rear wheel there is a little arrow, and if you go straight in from there you have your jack points right on the frame of the car. Easiest way to get it up may be to jack it from the middle of the car to get an entire side up, and just slip a stand in at front and back. Then repeat for other side. If you try to do one corner at a time you may run in to issues.
To get both sides up use a 1x2 board against the pinch weld and a shop jack just foreward of center of the coupe door to get the entire side up at once and keep stress off of the pinch weld, place your jack front and back, rear I'd use the rear swing arm mount and front the cradle bolt near the firewall. Repeat on the otherside keeping an eye on your far side stands ensuring they don't start to lift legs off the ground. Ensure you do this on concrete and not asphalt because asphalt will not let the jack roll well and will likely cause the far side stands to tip and probably drop your car.
