Key fob for 06's 07's LSJ's

ok so my friend traded in his 07 LSJ and gave me his key fob so i could have one because i broke my previous so i go to the dealer and ask them to re-program it to my car, they said they cant reprogram a 07 fob to a 06 fob... wtf i really have to buy a 2006 fob to program it, i thought the lsj fobs were alllll at least universal

Go to another dealer and dont tell them where its from ,just ask them to program it.
I personally dont think there is a difference but Im going to look into it.
I know there are different fobs for different options through.

i dont know for sure myself, but if the numbers on the back match each other than you would think its the same damn fob.

I need a spare myself and was looking into getting a used one off ebay, and that was the method I planned on using.

You know you may be right they might want you to hit up their parts department.

The only thing that matters is the part number not the year the keyfob came from. If you look on the back of the keyfob it will have a part number, i.e. my keyfob is GM/L:15252034. Look at your original part number and see if the new keyfob is the same part number. If the part numbers are the same it will work, if the part numbers are different they will not work.

I believe that 07 and newer are GM/L:15252034. 05-06 are GM/L:22733523. The battery connector broke on my 06 key fob and am looking for new ones. I refuse to go buy them from the dealer though. I hate that I have to bring it in to get programed. Sucks!

The internals are pretty similar. If you are good at soldering you should be able to desolder the battery holder from one fob and solder it onto the other.
