Key fob quick question ?

Quick question about Key Fob. Currently I am unable to program them I took it to one place and the stealership and both said they couldn't. Any idea what it could be what I could check ?

When I lock my doors with the buttons then close the door then open it with the car key the alarm goes off so I know the alarm functions.

Any information on what I can do is appreciated I hate locking my car then unlocking it and the alarm just going off

The alarm goes off When you lock your door with buttons on the door or the key fob?
If you lock it with the keyfob and unlock it with the key the alarm going off is normal.

I don't have a fob at all the Dealer was going to program one they had for me but they couldn't.

If i lock the door with the button from the inside then unlock it with the car key the alarm goes off and if you say thats normal then i guess thats good.

I don't think that's normal. You should be able to lock from the door and unlock with the key without the alarm going off.

It's normal for the car to do that if you lock it with the door lock and then open with the key the alarm will set

I did it that way for months until I fixed my fob. Alarm didn't go off when I did it that way.

Mine would go off too unless I manually pushed the plastic lock down. If you use the electronic lock button and then open with the key the alarm will go off.

Pretty sure thats normal since they didn't list it as a problem just the fact that they couldn't program the fob they had.
The place I had gone to also couldn't program the one they had and it looked identical to the dealer one?

should I buy one from somewhere and ask them to see if they can? I checked like fuses there was nothing wrong. Is there a specific part that they fob would connect to like its receiver what is that?

I know how much it is and it wasn't much but the problem was when they tried to program it they couldn't and said they would need to investigate what is causing the fobs not to be able to program

Sounds like the person operating the tech2 didn't know what they were doing or they ordered the wrong fobs.

Idk because I tried it at this one place I called up said they could do it they hooked up the device to my car but said they couldn't and that I should take it to the dealer.
So I did (got the recall done to it at the same time for that key thing or what ever) and they also said they were unable to program it? You really think it might have just been the person? There is another dealer I could probably ask about doing it for me I just wanted to know if there is anything I could personally check to see if something was really wrong?

If your using the door button that's not normal. Only the remote should arm the alarm. (My remotes stopped working and I had it lock but not unlock a few times and set my alarm off. Been using the door buttons since.

Are the fobs they're trying to program from the first place (non dealer)?

Well the one the dealer used was theirs so I assume it would be from the dealer
That other place I went to that said they could also had the same exact fob.

Go to another dealer. Really shouldn't be that hard, or they should at least be able to have half a clue what's wrong. They shouldn't just leave it at, they don't know...

Also, if you go through the settings on your steering wheel, where you reset your oil life, I think I recall an option for the alarm there.

Else, just press down on the actual lock on each door, instead of pressing the lock button. When you use the key, it only unlocks your door, so then just press the lock for your door each time.you.get out, and use the key to get in. Have a passenger, tell them to press their lock when they get out. Easy peasy. I'd go to another dealer though. Hope that one didn't charge you.

All cobalts i have driven and even the ones i have seen people unlock with their keys, the alarm goes off. Even happens on my g5. But If you press the lock button on the door twice quick before it starts beeping for the delayed lock, you can avoid the setting the alarm causing it to not go off when opened with the key. I remember that working for me when my fob broke
