Missing Coolant - Block problem?

Been looking for a while now for a Cobalt SS/TC and finally found myself a 2009 with 75k miles that was in my price range so I picked it up. Did some research on them before I bought it and didn't see much I couldn't handle besides that tiny percent with porous block issues. Fast forward a couple weeks and I see a low coolant warning when I start my car and sure enough it's an inch or so low. If I find coolant in my oil when I look has my LNF already been sentenced to death? Don't exactly have the spending money for a new block but I'm afraid I'm already screwed.

Have you checked that your not leaking coolant or your just assuming its porous block?

Being just a little bit low probably doesn't indicate it being a porous block. Check the oil, add coolant, and drive it a little to check for leaks like Snail SS said

When I changed oil the first time I looked everything over to see if anything was leaking and didn't see anything. However since loosing coolant I have not thoroughly gone through to make sure I'm not just leaking, no. I'm certainly not leaking enough to be obvious but I will look much closer now. I've just seen an unfortunate amount of people on here who mysteriously leak coolant and end up having a cracked block and I'm concerned that I'm now one of them. Also thanks for the reply!

Paid $6500 for it. The car has a salvage title from an accident when the car had about 10k miles on it. Figured the price was good but now maybe too good apparently. Guess I'm out a car.

Start saving up for an LDK. Its not a total loss. At least you have a brand new engine to look forward too

As others have said, don't completely give up. I feel bad for you man, but I wouldn't sell it, solely because the value is down due to the salvage title and with a bad engine, it'll be worth even less. You actually stand to lose more by trying to sell it as is than by buying and swapping an engine

Yes unless your able to find a used lnf engine a brand new one is the best choice.

Yeah that's my thought process as well. Plan on doing some searching for a used lnf but if I can't find one I'm probably going to end up just saving up for an ldk long block from zzp and being done with it

If you're interested in a used one, I'd try contacting mongorat427 on here. He's always got tons of used parts and is always on the lookout for more so he could probably help you locate one even if he doesn't have one at the time

I wouldn't get a used LNF, way to sketchy. You could end up with the same problem again.

I think it's actually cheaper directly from ZZP now, rather than off of ebay like when I got mine.

It is hard to find a used LNF.

I would do a LSJ block with LNF pistons and head before a used LNF anyways lol
