my car is bleeding :-(

I dont have pictures or anything, but my car went back to the stealership today. Ive got an oil leak on the passenger side of the head. it looks like it would be caused by a bad valve cover gasket, but this is the 3rd time for it going in for the same exact reason. I bought the car with
15k on it and the previous owner had the valve cover gasket replaced at like 10k miles. i bought the car and had it replaced again at like 35k. after the 35k replacement in 20 miles it was leaking again in the same spot, but worse. I finally got a chance to take it into the dealership today, so last night i was looking everything over and noticed a ticking noise coming from the sc and some clear oily stuff on the sc. where it looks like the snout hooks on to the rest of the sc. *it looks like 3 pieces lined up together. poor girl leaking all over the place :-(

Tony, the lemon law is a good thing, but believe me it is a paid in the ass. There are so many hoops to jump through that most people just wont bother. Do some research and get ready to wait. Plus you with be responsible to pay for usage, if they do buy it back. It cost me about 400.00 in usage and they locked the mileage at like 2000 miles. But there is a saying "the squeeky wheel gets the grease". Bug the **** out of them. Call them everyday, maybe twice a day, and just keep on bugging them. It worked for me. Good luck man.

i finally got that same problem fixed on the side of my passenger side head. it was actually a pourous (sp?) head. the way they poured the mold for the head was all jacked up or something, i guess think of air pockets in the head. after the fourth time they finally fixed it and no problems yet. (fingers crossed) this is 1 of a number of cobalts i've heard of the head leaking.

that's wierd.. after replacing the valve cover I've seen that it's really simple... are you sure someone didn't pinch a gasket or something like that?

A tiny bit of seepage may be normal... but actually leaking... odd...

Yeah I agree "The right stuff" is some good stuff.
Ive used it on my Corvette tranny pan without a gasket and has been leak free.

Good Point

Sure if they dont fix your ride .
I would after going in that many times for same problem repair.

I would give them one more chance if you like the car.
Like the other poster said your Cyc Head could be warp and if thats the case tell them you want a new head put on or you will call the lemon law.

any way you can get me a copy of ur work order that u got from the dealership? If u can then ill take it in and mention it to them. what did they do to fix it??? i need to know asap im taking the car back in tomorrow at 5.

now the update.... they called today and said the supercharger looked fine and fully functional... they replaced the oil in it after they looked at it. the sc isnt ticking anymore and it it isnt making the funny noises it was making after it heated up... i cant even begin to explain what it sounded like.

for the oil leak... they said they are 100% positive that it isnt the valve cover gasket..... so they put dye in it and said to take it back for a day and drive it around, then bring it back in, so they can look at it again. The only other explanation i could see is what the guy said that i quoted?

sure ill send that in a pm this afternoon. the head took 10days to get there cuz its not something they have just laying around, everything else came within a few days. it took this dealership 2 days....1day for the replacement and the 2nd day for them to make sure everything was in working order cuz this was the first head replacement anyone has ever done on an SS at that dealership. so on the 3rd day i got my car back and returned their crappy loaner.

Well I took the car back in to the dealership today so they could trace the dye that they put in. Turns out it is the exact problem the guy who posted above me had. a pourous head or whatever. They ordered the head and said they hope to have it by next week around wednesday and then ill take the car back in and have it put on. so at 40 k miles i get a brand new head

oil leaking too

I had a similar problem with my 06 ss/sc, it was leaking oil and I took it back to the dealer at 29K miles and they said it was the Camshaft housing cover seals, so they ordered and replaced it. I went to change the oil again and noticed more oil leaking at 34K miles. I took it back to the dealer and they put dye in the oil to find the leak and told me to drive it around until I noticed the leak again, which was the next day. So I take it back again and they tell me that it is coming out of the engine block itself. They told me it was a casting seam between the Bell mating surface and the head mating surface and that it was porous. Mine was covered under warranty, but like many other people here, I have a multi page work history for this vehicle. I've asked GM several times why they stopped making the SS/SC and they all tell me there isn't much information on that. Well I can tell them it's because the are put together very cheap and break often. I would not recommend one to anyone.

I'm sure GM didn't stop making them due to the service history, some are just trouble vehicle's. It's not like every car has a two page work history.
