My clutch dunzo?

Was ****** around a few times with a 350z. Now mind you Im not very good at launching my car but lately I have been getting it down. One of the runs I had terrible clutch slip going into second. Next thing I know it reeks of burnt clutch. I press on the accelerator and the rpms just go up untill it finally catches. Is my clutch done due to my shitty driving skills. Plus there was smoke coming from the car when I finally got it home. Do you guys think this will be covered under warranty, the car has less than 9k miles. Plus I got the extended wear and tear warranty. Im such an idiot.... oh yeah and he beat me too!

won't be covered under warrenty as soon as they look and see that it was abused. a dealer will rarely cover a clutch since it's considered a wear item, not a manufacturer defect.

sounds like you're hitting the gas too much before the clutch is all the way out. for it to be smoking you had to have really, really done a # on it. as soon as your clutch slips you need to get off the gas, not keep your foot down.

if something on the clutch is broken, they would probably fix it. but it's like brake pads. if you slam on your brakes all day long, and try to get get the brake pads "fixed" under warrenty, they'll tell you they won't do it. it's not a defect, it's wear and tear or user error. it's not their fault.

if this guy burned his clutch to the point that it was smoking, as soon as they take it apart they're going to see how shitty it looks. they only cover defects, not learning how to drive. (no offense)

^^ guarantee you clutch is not. and like i said, even if it is, once they open it up they won't fix it for free. try taking it easy till you get better at driving. try shifting aroud 4k or so, if you go easy and don't fry it more for a while it may start grabbing better. but my advice is definitely do not practice launching and/or hard driving untill you can shift perfectly, otherwise it's going to keep getting worse and you'll do the same thing to a new clutch anyways.

what do you mean none of the gears work? what happens?

It just slips through every single gear. How much is it to get a clutch fixed? Im gonna call them this morning and say I let my bro take my car out last night and now the clutch is fried.

Only good race we had was from 2nd gear. I inched on him then as soon as we hit third he put a car on me. I really hope this **** is covered I dont think I can even drive it. I mean **** I bought an extended WEAR AND TEAR warranty. Its not just the 100,000 mile powertrain BS. Anyone know if they charge to have it towed to the stealership? Oh and all I have is stage 1

bro, i'm not being a dick, i just don't want you to get your hopes up. a fried clutch at 9,000 miles is not wear and tear. it's abuse. start looking into aftermarket clutches and see what you can afford.

Okay there is a big post about the clutch and how to use it correctly. Look it up! From what I have read the cobalt clutch is kind of a unique cluthc it ahs to get warmed up for it to work properly. If you continuosly abuse it multiple times in a row it will eventually slip. This has happened to me about twice. But the good thing is, is that your clutch is not lost. Take it easy for a while on it and it is suggested that you shift at around 3500 to 4000 everytime u shift even if you are just cruising. the longer you do this, in a way, it builds back up your clutch to hold the power shifts from first too second. I can easily chirp the tires from first to second now but you have to be careful not to do it over and over agian in a row. Hope this helps.

Is this true? I swear I cant even get the clutch to engage I had to push it out of the way so I could drive my truck? Although I know I did make it home last night when it was messed up. Should I take it for a spin and do the RPM thing. Roadside assistance should be here in an hour.

ok so roadside just picked it up. He said the odd thing was that the clutch would be competly out and the car would not stall. He said he could definately smell clutch though.

^^^^D4 answered your question before I could. It's not wear and tear, it's abuse and it's going to cost you a pretty penny to get it fixed. Probably in the neighborhood of $500-600 minimum.

Wear and tear would be "My clutch went out at 80,000 miles" not "I warped my clutch at 9,000 miles".

You MIGHT luck out and get some no-brain idiot who will cover it anyway, but chances aren't too good.

Even they guy that towed it said all parts on the vehicle should be covered for a year, and there is NO reason they shouldnt cover a clutch with 9k on it. It should be able to handle some beating. And trust me I dont even beat on the car all that often. Not once did I **** the clutch up in my 97 trans am, or my 88 mustang 5.0. Its due to these faulty crappy parts they put these cars together with. They cant handle ****. If they dont cover it they can fix my leather seat where its coming undone at the bottome, my passenger window that makes a loud ass creak every time it rolls up, that shitty plastic thing where the trunk button is fell apart. These cars are honestly pathetic. Trust me I wont go down with a fight. You will see a silver cobalt out front of the dealership with lemons all over it.....rant mode off.

Wow.....

If you want to fight them, fight them, but if it comes down to a lawsuit, they've got the law on their side.

Oh please like you havent had clutch slip going into second every now and then. I dont give a damn what anyone says, I DO NOT beat this car, and a clutch should not go out at 9k miles. It should handle a tid bit more than that, but hell its built like a cavalier after all. Can anyone answer me as to why my car would not stall when the clutch was fully disengaged?

if you have your foot right off the pedal and the car isnt moving (or doesnt stall) you have roasted all the friction material off the disk. the only way to for this to happen is by exessive heat caused me lots of slipping.

im a trasnmission tech, the shop i work for warrentys our clutches for 40k km or 2 years. we have had 2 cases of people comming back for warrenty, on was 3 months later and all the friction material had come off the disk. acompanying that was a flywheel (had been resurfaced) that was so badly heat checked it was cracking, and the stop pins in the hub were hammered, and the springs were loose. this is always a true telltale sign of abuse. the springs in the hub are designed to stop clutch chatter, and they have pins to hit to prevent it from overtraveling. when a clutch has been abused the pins will get shiney markes in them, and continued abuse will cause the springs to become loose in the hub.

if you have a good dealership near you, they may pull the tranny out and inspect it, if they see any signs of abuse (shiney pins, loose springs, heat checked flywheel) your out of luck.

That’s a big negative not covered, my clutch also went out after 2 months of owning the car, I took it back and they turned around and told me that it was abused. I spent $850 for a new clutch. Your best bet is to get a better clutch the stock clutch from the dealer suck.

Finally talked to the dealership and they are going to cover it. Said its basically a one time deal. I tried explaining to him that I dont beat the car very much and he quickly responded with the front tires are almost bald. Oh well I dont give a damn, a brand new clutch should not go out at 9k reguardless. **** it shouldnt even go out at that mileage if I was continuously dropping the clutch at 5k. Junky clutch... said its gonna take till atleast tues, so Ill be getting my rental tomorrow.
