need help

as you know.. my sn is mycavisux97. and the sums it up well.. i gave it to my brother and he has had problems with it.. 1997 cavi 2.2.. well it has a new head.. new computer and some other things, plugs and stuff like that.. it has always had a roug idle problem.. but its gotten worse, i got home today and he told me it was burning oil.. heres the part.. hes not a car guy at all and he didnt change the filter last time he changed the oil... so i drove it.. and it was rough.. it wouldn't accelerate at all until about 50.. when you hit the gas it would just putt.. and i thought something was wrong with one of the cylinders.. im not sure.. it sat for a while.. can you guys help me? suggestions anything?? he is real young and my parents are ***** about spending money for us on cars and stuff, so until october.. he is stuck with it.. can you help me at all?

Tune up

Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Wires
New Fuel Filter
New O2 Sensors
New Air Filter
Fresh Oil Change
New Oil Filter
Check all electrical connectors
Make sure there is no vaccum leaks
Put a good tank of gas in
Check for exhaust/header leaks
Remove Cataylst Converter and go straight pipe

That's a good start.

compression test the cylenders.... can probably rent the pump at autozone. If its an older car you wqant to be at about 150 psi..... 120 at the least. If its bad change the oil again with a new filter and get this stuff, ii forgot the name, but it goes in with the oil and helps ceal the cylender

flush the engine oil and change oil. flush injectors. replace air filter. clean the throttle body and chk the engine mounts. fuel filter
are there any check engine lights on ??
