Need Help to pass Inspection
I have a 2005 ss/sc with no cat, and do not intend on putting one on, how can I pass my NYS emissions? I have HP Tuners, but have no idea what to do to get the car to pass, and its over due....

im not sure in NY, but if if you came to my shop, just by looking at the car, Id have to fail you do to visually seeing, no cat.
cant help you on the NY thing though. good luck |
well my family owns a shop here, they know i dont have a cat, nor do they care....

Go to valvoline or one of those instant oil change places. They should pass it no problem. They literally checked my lights and slapped the sticker on.

We in NYS have to have the car scanned .
|
ohhh thats bitchin, Im a certified emmisions inspector, and have wanted to go catless, but I cant beat the OBD system. So its not really worth it for me.
|
just take it to valvoline or a shop that you know people who work there
|
take it to a private shop, pay extra, and they may pass you, if they're shady. if they're a legit shop, you're out of your money, and you fail. i don't know how it is in ny, but in nj you'll get in alot of trouble if you don't have a cat.
|
even if i did live or work i NY, i dont think itd be worth loosing my job and licsense over passing your car.
|
is it throwing a code? if not, and they dont visibly inspect the underside of your car, then you should pass. But dont let it stay overdue, or they will send a hefty fine your way. (at least in NC they do)
Its just not worth the trouble of going catless... |
How can you PASS? put a damn cat on it

$2,500 dollar fine, I think you loose your license for 3 or 6 mths, and that's just for the 1st offense. That's just here in Nova Scotia, which came into effect april 1st this year. All our emmission laws are modeled after california laws. Can't even have a "free flowing" muffler. If a broom handle can go up the muffler without hitting any baffles you fail. When I went for my last safety inspection, I saw the mechanic doing that to my car, looked like my car was getting an anial probe.

it should be throwing a p0420 code. go into hpt and delete this code and you'll pass when they plug it up. i wouldn't worry about them looking under your car. go to a shop with some kids workin at it and they wont care. slip them a 20 and ur good.
|
lol inspection for me is like 3 minutes 1 to pull the car in 1 for them to see that i have an 06 and say im good 1 to pay and leave.
|
if they do what they are supposed to, then they have to look under the car to make sure that you do in fact have both a muffler and a cat on your car.
NOw.. you could take a cat, gut it out, and disable the code in HPTuners, and it would look like you have one, because you do, but they would never find out its empty. Problem SOLVED |
srsly. in pa we have obd2 test. delete the code with hpt and your all good.

for the second time, my family owns the shop, i work there, and all my techs know i dont have a cat, that isnt the problem, the problem is getting the computer to read the flags as set or not, nm...

only CA uses sniffers on OBD 2 vehicles, all other states do visual checks, and OBD2 checks

Bro I have a stock 2.2 downpipe in NJ if you need it. I'm sure your car will sound/perform awful with it in, but it should get you through emissions.

NO, if you disable the code in HPTuners, it wont show up as a problem in the OBD computer for the state For PA you can have one readiness test as incomplete and still pass...but if you have a cel you will fail...if your computer has all the dtcs unchecked in hptuners then you will never get a cel. |
