i live in the Lehigh Valley (allentown/bethlehem/easton), out in the country, and it's not that cheap. head about 1 hr north and i could buy a nice house for close to half what it is in this area. now out where the OP lives i'm not sure what values are since i don't get out that way too much

**** is expensive. Water bill in my town is outrageous.. My parent's pay like $400 a month or something like that I think.

I think if I rebuild I'm just going to continue to have stupid little problems since I'm over 100k miles and have recently been having some electrical issues.

Right now I'm thinking the best thing is to go after a sedan for around 15k for the future with kids and all that. Coupe wouldn't be very useful with kids but I'm not sure.

Milking it out. Why wouldn't I stay at home for as long as I can? More money for myself lol. Everyone I've talked to said I should milk it out.

No offense but if your making $60k a year and live at home the car shoulda been paid off and should have no problem building a motor. If you dont mind me askin what do you spend your money on? Im 22 and ive bought a brand new cobalt, paid that off, sold it, bought a HHR for $17k which I owe $4k on, bought a beater neon that i paid cash for, I to have a gf, phone bill, car insurance, life insurance, health insurance, groceries, and basically have to pay for anything that I need and I make a little over a 1/2 of what you make a year. Once the HHR is paid off Im buying a house. Sounds to me you need to learn how to budget your money. Not trying to be a dick its just the truth.

I have no problem at all with rebuilding the engine. I can afford it and my car isn't paid off because I've been using it to build credit.

this x109232.. i'm 20 and not even making 1/3 of what OP is and the only thing now that currently isnt getting instantly paid off from what I make is my college tuition where I have to loan about half of it off. Beater cavalier got paid for in cash in january, SS in cash last april (the LT I had before was in cash when I was 16), and all my monthly expenses are covered by my part time job on campus which is barely higher than minimum wage (all while still having some fun money left in there for mods and racing events). something isnt adding up here in terms of budgeting to me either

Let me say something before I give you my response. I'm not trying to be a dick, a troll, toot my own horn, or say anything negative about you so please don't take it this way but you asked for help. It doesn't take a logical, 50+ year old to give you the right answer.

How are you 21, making 60k+ a year, and still owe money on your vehicles?
I'm 20, living with my parents paying rent, making 15-20k a year, and I almost have my vehicle paid off as well as started up a business I almost have paid off (while saving money as well).

You're either not making 60k+ a year or you have no idea how to balance your budget. I'd get your stuff paid for immediately, even being 20 I know that not having payments are freakin' ****. 60k+ a year is enough to buy a house, pay for 2 newer cars, get married and have kids to pay for while living comfortably AND still saving money. I'd kill to be in your position.

Get your car fixed, whether it's a brand new motor or a rebuild, stop spending money (making an assumption) on useless **** or blowing it all on your girlfriend, get a house, get that **** paid for, then reap the benefit of having a job where you make more than most adults who went through college make. Sounds like you have it made, you just need to figure out where your money is going towards and balance your stuff. Good luck dude.

You're doing life wrong if all your money goes towards your girlfriend. Married on the other hand is a different story..

I must be doing something wrong then because I don't understand how you guys have so much money to pay for this stuff. I do buy my friends a lot of **** and pay for most of vacations. I know when I move out I won't be doing any of that stuff anymore.

I wouldn't say I have so much money to pay for this stuff but rather I just put my money where it needs to go. I still go out, take friends out to dinner (girls, lol), movies, booze, small vacations, etc, but if I know I can't afford to do something I try to stop myself. Doesn't always work but it pays off in the long run when I have my bills in order and know I can comfortably do things without freaking out about my bank account.

None of that meant to sound like an accusation like you're ******* up, it's just a basic assumptions of how I'd be out of money if I made 60k+ a year and thinking you might be doing the same thing.

Just watch where your money goes. Don't stop having fun, by any means. I'd give my left nut to be able to be in a position of 60k+ right now, so would a ton of other people out there not making diddly squat. You really have it made dude, just gotta buckle down and get it all worked out.
