OEM Tire Problem. PLEASE READ!!!
Like many of you, my cobalt came with a set of continental tires. They weren't great, but whatever. at about 18-21000 miles I started having some serious issues with the tire. at about 23000 I actually had a tire start to literally FALL APART. the tread was falling off of the tire. I took it in and had it replaced under chevy's warrantee. They first tried to tell me they could not because the tires were almost at the wear bars.... AT 23,000 MILES! At 24,000 I had YET ANOTHER tire do the EXACT same thing. But this time they could not cover it because my car was over 24,000... Which is FALSE because EVERYTHING on the car is covered 3/30,000, even tires i looked it up.
** Important Note: I dont hot rod my car, its only an LS for crying out loud! ha. I baby my car and take great care of it. tires rotates every 6k and oil every 3k religiously. Just so you dont think I am a douch who abuses his car and baled his tires. **
GM was very rude to me, even going to the extend to basically call me a liar, and that I must have been driving it like it was nascar... And the service agent told me that he had NEVER seen ANY car have bald stock tires at 23k. Which I dont believe. I did some research and found thease reviews:
http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/rea...fcs=false&fcb=
http://www.tirerack.com/survey/Surve...1=yes&place=36
I am just wanting to hear some other stories with these tires from everyone here as I am sure there are some. I am planning on printing all of those and anything we post here and take it to my dealer to shove up this guys ass. Worst case I think GM needs to pay for the new tires I needed at freaking 24k. I think GM has totally F'ed up here. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Meh, almost all OEM Tires suck. My tires on my fullsize showed signs of being bald at 22k. Now, with all the atm, weight, crappy gearing, and the lack of power from my 4.3..... you know I was pealing out or anything stupid. Its just the way it works, i guess.

ya the tires blow......one of the first thing i did was get rid of the steel wheels.....get a set of rims and wrap them in good rubber.......a decent set of tires aren't too costly and you will avoid a ton of headaches with dealer nonsense if you get a better set

checking out the links/reviews in the original post i cant believe they are charging over a hundred dollars for the continental tire.......i got Toyo Proxes 4 (best tire ive ever owned) and my cobalt handles amazing in snow, ice, rain no problem......and they only cost me $99 for the 16".......if ur driving an LS and keepin the steel wheels u can get them for even cheaper....

I know OEM suck, but 20k on a set? That seems ridiculous. Tires should last at least 40k with the way I drive... I been to the track ONCE. and about 12-15k of my 23k is highway. And not only balding, but tire was falling apart.... Tread separating from the tire.... Isnt that what happened to the ford "exploder" a few years back???
The really glorious part was the service rep told me he had NEVER seen a cobalt with worn tires @ 24k.... insinuating that I was driving like a complete idiot. Thanks for all telling me that it isnt me, so at very least i wanna go tell this jerk to go screw off...
PLUS. the dealer blatantly lied to me saying my warrantee is only good for 24k. it IS 3/36,000.
Thanks for the all the input thus far.
I cant either.... They should be 10$ piece if they are this bad...

I used to work for a tire shop and I very rarely saw a set of stock tires go more than 20,000 before wearing down to nothing. Stock tires just don't hold up.

If you have the same tires as the SS/tc(conti summer tires) they are actually good tires, its just that with them being high performance summer tires they arent really designed to go more than 20k miles...
Take a look at these advan tires:
Yokohman ADVAN Neova AD07 225/40/18
88W UTQG: 180aa a
$225.00
If you look at the UTQB number it shows "180".....
Despite the fact that these are really sticky tires, you'll be lucky to see 10-15k miles on them... Performance tires of all brands arent designed for high mileage...
Now if you have conti's with a 400 UTQG and they failed at that mileage then yea they are defective.... Also, a 400 UTQG you might as well buy plastic tires.....

I am going in on wednesday to "talk" to them... I am a little upset over this. Not JUST the tires, but the treatment by the people at the dealership.
