Painted Rims Flaking
Painted Rims Flaking
So I know this has been discussed in a couple threads but how are dealerships taking care of this? I went to the dealer that I bought my car and they said that they would only replace them once as some kind of "one time good ____ program" which amounts to they will replace them once to avoid pissing me off and never going back to that dealer again. But shouldnt this be covered under the paint warranty and even if it happens again they would have to replace them?
If not this is total bullshit, paint flakes right off the rims and chevy wont cover it. I dont care where you live paint shouldnt flake off like that salt or no salt.
Just wondering if anyone has any tips for me to deal with this. Thanks for your input

I am goin to the dealership tomorrow. I have a few HUGE bubbles on each wheel were it is about to flake off, not to mention the several places it has already come off. I am hoping for them to atleast re paint them if not completely replace them. I will let u know how it goes!!
district service manager, ask for him and bitch, im goin through this right now, they refinished one of my rims, but its slightly off and the others have very very small defects but to me they are big ones, try that.
thanks, hope you have better luck than I do. I mean the dealer would replace them but whats stopping it from 8 months from now flaking right back off again. How do i get in contact with the district service manager?
We should all keep harassing all the district service managers until we get a recall issued or a TSB at least. You think this might be why 07's have polished rims. I think its highly likely
that is what happens when people paint rims. i don't know what gm was thinking when they thought painting rims was a bright idea. i'm sure they saved a ton of money just painting them instead of ordering them that way.
i painted my own rims....awhile ago! last through a chicago winter, salt, TONS of heavy washes (im obsessed...haha)....so i kinda disagree DC5, but in the nicest way, lol, just IMO. We just took of my boyfriends rims and painted his stock ones on his DC5...those look amazing and are lasting too....so i dont know what people are doing or what we did thats different but all of ours last just fine

i guess so! but its weird because we just used Dupli-Color paint, not expensive at all, but were pretty detailed doing them (layers of primer, sanding, smooth sanding, clear coats, etc.) (p.s. SSSEEEXXXYYY DC5)

I had no problem with the service manager where I bought my car. I showed him the problem and he had them all re-done at a cost of $235.
\rim plus 2 days rental. The paint used this time is a new specialized product and they look great. I chose to go lighter than the OEM gunmetal.

The clutch should be here in a week or so, I told him send it the slowest cheapest way because it is going to take 4-5 weeks to get the stage 2 head from JBP. I also did the same with the Comp Cams and Fidenza flywheel, having it shipped with a regular order so no extra shipping charges, seeing as I have to wait for the head anyways. But the time these parts come in I am hoping that the PCM is craked.
So I just got back from the dealership, the service manager is going to call his GM rep and see what they suggest. I told him that others were having the same problems! From the looks of it on my wheels, I would say it was a prep problem. B/c when the paint comes off it is oxidized underneath from something that was on the wheels before they were painted. Hopefully I hear back from the dealership before the end of the day.
I just dont want to have them replaced and have the same thing happen all over again especially cause from the sound of it my dealership wont be replacing them for free again. One time deal they say, i think its b.s. it should be warrantied. They want to blame salt but how about guys down south that are having the same problems

Bottom line, a paint job is totally dependant on proper surface prep and priming. If theses steps are done wrong then there will be a lack of adheshion and the coating will fail. It is just that simple, and considering the # of us who have\had this problem GM is well aware of it.
I literally *just* got back from the dealer with my loaner. I have the same problem only it is just starting, at first they said the same sh-t about rock chips. Once I politely showed the the worst rim and picked off the paint that was bubbling...they said it needs paint
it will back from the refinishers on friday, and I get a loaner until then.
I have to say I'm impressed with their service so far. I was ready for a major battle today, but I showed up to them telling me all 4 will be painted so they match and here's the keys to your loaner. I wish it was always that easy.
Good luck my friend.

I need help...
The other morning i was pulling out of a driveway, half asleep. I scuffed my passenger's rear rim (on the lip). has anyone had a problem like this, and has touched it up with something? ANY advice would be good.
