I always use the ebrake and put it in reverse. The ebrake on this car is horribly weak. My car will roll slowly on a big slope with just the ebrake on.

had the same problem a few years a go with a 92 chevy pickup. i parked on a hill and set the parking brake got out to hang with frends and sat on the tailgate and it started moving. good thing it was not locked got in and stoped it before it hit moving trafic. after that i have always left in 1 or R gear and parking brake set even on automatic autos"that's another story" .truck moved due to worn rear brakes. so better safe than sorry is the code i live by.

I only use the e-brake too, but that's only because I have a tendency to completely forget that the car's in gear and embarrass myself every time I started the car. I've only done that maybe three times, but it makes me want to jump out of my skin!

Standard shift Cobalts don't have a "must depress the clutch before stater will engage" lockout switch?

They do, but idiots like djpatrick35 and myself are in the habit of clutch-turn key-release in one fluid motion, and don't pay attention to the fact that it's still in gear...

I've only done it a couple times...

dont have that problem (yet) ill either put it in neutral or release the e-brake-clutch key turn and go( unless out of gear-then put into gear and then go).
although, i ll amit 1 time i did take off with my e-brake still on, my cobalt wasnt very pleased at me at all

I was at work last weekend and I was parked on a steep incline. It was freaking hot outside and the leather seats would have cooked my rear so I open the door and press the clutch in so I could start it and get the A/C running. The EB was up pretty far and the thing started to roll! I was so close to that curb, almost demolished the front air dam. /sigh. You have to pull that thing up far, especially on an incline.

You can add me onto that list. I did that a few times when I had it parked in reverse with the handbrake up. clutch-turn key-release. The car rolled a little bit after it stalled. Its not damaging to the handbrake is it? I was soo pissed I did that cause I usually don't do that.
