Possible Ignition Problem, not covered by recall.

So guys,

This is the 3rd time this has happened. I once left my keys in the ignition with the car off, acc off just because I didnt feel like carrying them into work, my car was in plain sight all day. Anyways, I came out. Battery TOTALLY dead, and the key wont come out of the ignition. With a jump I was good, and had no further problems.

Today, sitting in the car, shut car off, didnt open the doors, watching a DVD on my single din. I hear the subwoofers cut out and the car goes dead. Battery less than a year old.

Jump the car, lights are flickering and I have no power steering, with the PS light on in the information display. I left the car running for 30 minutes, then was able to make it a mile to Quirk Chevy in Braintree. They replaced the ps motor under recall supposedly a 2nd time because the dealership we bought the car from has a receipt for doing it.

Regardless, the battery tested it, battery is fine. So I am assuming this has to be some sort of ignition issue because the tech couldnt find anything else. I didnt realize it but im used to putting the key in, then pulling it out about 1/8th of an inch to start the car, it wont turn if the key is in all the way.

Thankfully its fixed now with no issues, and I was only stuck in Braintree for about an hour. (I was a hour away from home with kids in the car)

Just wondering if anyone has seen this before and if it is related to the ignition recall that is NOT active on my car's vin.

Still having serious problems and need help. 3 times this week, I get in the car, turn the key and CLICK, all lights go out, car doesnt start and all power is lost, key stuck in ignition.

Just happened, asked my sisters boyfriend to jump it, hooked mine on, got in car, sparks flew. He hooked his side up backwards but caught it in 1/2 a second.

Strange enough, as soon as he did that all my lights turned on and fired up. Shut the car back off to confirm its not the battery and it started right back up as normal.

Now, my "anti theft" yellow light is on, but i dont have power locks or anything.....WHAT THE ****! someone help me out here, Ive got too much aftermarket headlight wiring, stereo, b&m shift plus.... ect, to take the car to the dealership. And YES, I disconnected everything from the battery including headlights, the shift plus, my stereo and a few other things like led fogs, and this problem is still happening.

Any help appreciated!

Can anyone shed some light here? Ive determined its definietly and ignition lock issue because I google searched and found others with the Zero power key stuck problem, but they said that the recall on the ignition switch applies to ALL Cobalts 05-10.

Just spoke with 2 seperate Chevy dealerships and confirmed they cannot do that recall because it doesnt apply to my VIN number. Without being 100% sure if its the lock switch for my shifter assembly thats the issue im not sure where to go here.

Any help seriously appreciated.

Quick question. Do you have around 1,000 keys dangling off the key chain? I'm wondering if too much weight will screw with the ignition lock cylinder, possibly causing it to go backwards. Just throwing that Area 51/Groom Lake $hit out there, lol.

i disconnected everything last week, hids, audio ect. its not that. Battery is 100%, with a turn of the key it just dies instantly. As soon as I touch the jump cables everything is 100% in a second, even without turning on the other car or giving it a second to charge.

Feel like its grounding out through the ignition

as i said on FB, i think you have an issue in your fuse box, where your positive post is, also have you checked the wires running to your starter?

Actually, too many keys and other crap dangling can screw up your ignition. I'm unsure about the Cobalt, but I have seen it happen on Chrysler vehicles.

I have like 2 things on my keychain there is no issue there. And andy, I havent checked wires to the starter, but i removed all the accessory connections from the fuse box (hids, stereo ect).

Also, I googled this same issue and found others with this same issue and having it fixed under an ignition recall. Key stuck in ignition killing power.
