Power Steering
Power Steering
after 35,000 miles i dropped the forged pistons, rods, cams, and valve train components. I now have 2,000 miles on this egnine and now im having problems w/ the power steering. Anyone have an issue with their power steering system? I did pay extra when i got the car for the 60k 5 yr warrenty.
thanks, ill unplug the battery tomorrow morning and see if that works
that might explain why after i shut the car off that the problem would clear out but after i got up to speed, say 50 or 55 the power steering will cut out again

it corrected the problem for about 4 or 5 hours then it happend again. dropped it off at the dealer today and its under warranty. thank god i paid for the 60 mo/60000 mile warranty
Mine's been doing the same thing, I also tried resetting the computer and it worked for a day, and then started up again. Let me know what they say is wrong with it, they told me that my entire steering column needed to be replaced (1100 dollars).
There is an electric motor and a relay for it, a rather large relay at that. if you look up under the dash you will see the motor mounted on the steering coloum. that is what will need to be replaced and mine is covered under the extended warranty. I always buy the extended warranty when i buy the first model year of a vehical. never know what kind of bugs you will find and it seams as though this is one of the bugs with the 05 LS's with 35k+ miles on em. My moms black LS is starting to do the same thing and she just sent an emails saying that GM might be doing a recal on this because its becoming a bigger issue
it dont mater if you have greace building up. the Motor and the relay for the motor to the power steering in ont he steering colum itself up under the dash and you can see it. You cant miss it, its really big.
The dealer said the just the electric motor needed replaced. they said that when they checked for resistances the found that the resistance where way low, which is what made the power steering message trigger. If the resistance gets to low the computer turns off the electric motor to keep it from causing a fire at the steering columb.
They fixed it friday, too bad im underway i could have picked it up friday anytime before 5pm. Oh well ill get it back when i come back.

sorry, the steering columb is not under the power train warrenty. power train is as follows, drive axels, trany, engine, intake, exhaust, shifter linkage, spindals.
Thing not covered under warrenty at all is Cluch, Cluch friction plate, and breaks.
Hence forth, always buy extended warrenty on first modle year of a new vehical. never know what bugs you will run into. But if there is enough buzz going on about the power steering going out, they will do a recal and that will make it free for you
