Pwr Steering problem: Lights dim/wheel doesnt return straight
Hey guys, my girl now drives my old gold base model in my sig mostly returned to stock now with 130k miles on it. Power Steering recall was done two years ago. She got out of work at midnight last night and said she almost went off the road and the steering feels messed up.
I drive the car and notice 3 major issues:
1- Pulling out of the driveway and turning the wheel while not or barely moving the lights dim super low light the alternator cant keep up with the ps motor.
2- the power steering has almost dead spots where when I straightened the wheel its normal then hard to turn for a second then back to normal.
3- the most dangerous- After turning the wheel does not straight itself out like it normally does. I could throw a brick on the gas pedal with the wheel turning and the car will do continuous circles. You have to physically straight the wheel out (power steering still works) but its very odd that while acceleration out of my street I have to manual straighten the steering wheel.
My girl and kids are in this car daily and she doesn't feel safe. Nor does she feel safe driving my 5mt HHR SS shes not good at driving stick. I don't have time to work on the car till Tuesday or Wednesday of next week so from now until then I need to do some research.
Buddy of mine said check lubrication of the ujoints connecting the Ishaft but I think that would only solve issue #2.
Any help really appreciated!!!
