Radio issues on 06 cobalt 2.2

ok so here is the deal... my friends cobalt OEM radio is having MAJOR issues with the radio / stereo. here is what has been done - she took it in to the dealership they took it out and shook it around and said something was stuck in there like a peice of a cd or change causing it to blow the fuse (i didnt know that shaking a head unit with a cd player and hearing things counted as trouble shooting) so they charged her for the tech doing that and said it would be 800 to replace the radio since she was past the 35k warranty.

so my friend comes to me i go to some one else and get a OEM radio (locked and the dealer ship told me they cold not unlock it of course lying) so i opened up her radio (didnt find anything flying around in there like they said) and replaced the power inverter, the front face and then also the cd player from the locked radio onto hers.

so after about 2 days the fuse blew again what is making me think it is electrical in the car that is shorting out the fuse and i am going to try running a direct line and place a fuse on it and see if it still blows the fuse but it mainly happens when she steps on the gas. sounds like her alternator and i dont have time to drive around with her with my multi meter hooked up the the fuse box to wait for it to happen again.

more back story is when it was covered by the warranty she took it in and they replaced the fuse and said just replace the fuse if it happens again. so she repalced the fuse about 3 times and then after about the 4th time it got to the point it was blowing the fuse every time it was put in.

any one with any ideas on what to do other then go back to the dealer ship and tell them to sodomize their tech for being a idiot?

I just stopped by for a little research, and maybe we can help each other out. My only wisdom to share is that a while back, I had an old Cavalier that the A/C kept going out on. It too was under warranty, and the dealer kept replacing fuses, which would then blow. I finally took it somewhere else and they discovered that some of my wiring was laying over on the manifold because a clip had broken under the hood. So maybe your problem is some wires where they shouldn't be and they are getting too hot and burning through the insulation and shorting.

As far as how you might be able to help me, my factory head unit just stopped playing cds. It says "check disc" when you turn on the power, but when you push eject it says "no disc." I can't hear anything moving in the head unit, but the radio (XM and regular) works fine. Was this like your problem, or did the whole thing just go dead? Also, when you took one apart, do you think the insides of the cd drive are accessible, or will I have to break something to get in there.

Good luck and thanks.
