rant... its almost time to trade in

well i have had the car for 6600 miles now, first it was stalling, then the infamous po171, then car shutting down over large pot-holes (sometimes can't avoid them in the dfw)...then tonight driving home from dinner the road was nice and cold so from the light i spun through first...went into second and sliiiiiiiiipppppppppppppppp...nothing. stop the car, try it again... grabs no problem. wtf i have never raced this car, done a burnout of anything...so the first time i really get into it from a stop it won't hold.

gm f'n sucks...

actually all the cars except for my winter truck and moving vehicle were fwd. two with full builds.

and...it wasn't the tires slipping, it was the pressure plate lacking function. i have over 300 passes at the strip... i know how to drive.

300 passes pffff thats nothin I'm only 18 and I got over 150!
Seriously though, its the way you drive. Some people have really bad slip even while stock, others have no slip even with heavy mods (like myself)

so how is it the way u drive? u shift from first to second in a hard shift...not even power shift, and nothing is there...then get out of the gas, slow down... shift to first and hammer it again and it holds.

its not a clutch problem, its another mechanical problem leading to the clutch being at fault.

the problem is your nice to it all the time, and then you want it to act right when you bitch slap it. There is a problem with the parts glazing because they are driven too soft.

I always babied mine except when at the track. what did i get. mad slip when i went there.

Now i show that mother ****** who is boss whenever i drive it, and when I am at the track i don't get any slippage even with the QTP drag radials.

ok, the first time i launched on the drag radials i got slip, but that was cause i launched way too high for them and it was my fault. but thats it.

start driving that car like it's your bitch, not your baby. and it will learn to grab when you want it too.

Ill explain this as easily as possible, because alot of people do this in the cobalt and then blame the clutch/car.

when you spin the **** out of first gear....you reach redline and your speedometer is reading max speed in first gear.

but your NOT going that speed, your barely going half that speed, and then you slam into second and drop the clutch at a speed that second gear is NOT supposed to start in......and then you wonder why you smell burning clutch.

what you are doing is the equivalent of rolling along at a few MPH, revving to redline and dropping the clutch in second gear.

what do you expect would happen if you do that?

Please consider what YOU are doing behind the controls, before you pull out the "zomg piece of **** car" card.

You speak too soon. There is a known issue with the computer that will make the car feel like the clutch is slipping with a very nice, hard, shift into second. I've experienced it many a time, it is designed to protect the trans. You can tune around it.

PS- the clutch does slip more when cold. Try to warm it up a bit when the weather is not so nice.

have to agree with user error. also dont hover on the clutch cus it is sensitive. there are guys that cant get their cruise control to work cus they hover to heavy on the clutch and it wont let it engage. also dont down shift to first unless you wanna destroy something.

look at my sig after reading this ... I can power shift any gear slow down get back into first (obviously have to come to a stop/near stop for it to engage) then take off again no problem. as blown mentioned some have slip and some dont but it comes down to how you drive

Sounds like you've got it figured out. I thought my clutch was an issue when I first got the car. I treat it like my bitch now, and haven't had any trouble in a long time.

Edit: It's my bitch, but it's one thing to treat it like it's your bitch but it's new to you and another to treat it like it's your bitch and you know your bitch well.

i do never beat on the car when its below operating temp. and i do drive the vehicle spirited with beating more then often, but...i see no reason for burnouts and i don't trust it for the track. hence no racing and burnouts.

this was not the ecu causing it. i smelled clutch when i stopped, for the first time ever in this vehicle. and i made sure after it happened for me to stop and launch the car quite hard. if a clutch is slipping, and within 10 seconds...you push it further it will still slip, but there was no slip. i do not blame it on the clutch, or the ecu...tq management will not do this

what should happen is the clutch should be able to take it. hell, my focus could take 70whp over stock without a problem, why can't a chevy take 10whp over stock...

i definately blame the car...oh, and i didn't even shift at reline, i pulled out of first and into second due to wheelhop. i wasn't even fully on the gas.

and to further clear things up

coolant temp: bout 176
outside temp: 42

Onimirage: i know man, i've been building motors and transmissions since i was 15, and been a tech now for 6 years... i know my cars and how they should drive.

No one was stating that this could not happen, just that there are plenty of other things that can occur similiar to it. Engine temp does not give you an accurate reading of transmission temp whatsoever, however, I'll take your word on things being more than warmed up. When I first got my car, the clutch did slip, as though it was glazed. Now that I've had it a while, it sticks better than I ever thought it would. Please don't compare your Focus to a supercharged LSJ, you'll loose all credibility. Wait, you're a Toyota Tech, maybe you already have. Regardless, the amount of bitching I've seen on this site makes me wonder if everyone here is spoiled and has ADD (or doesn't but is still medicated as if they do).

why does that spoil my credibility? i entered toyota because i have the ability (and do) to pull double the hrs then surrounding domestic dealers with a higher pay. its called making a living.

and comparing a focus? where are the LSJ's in the 10's? and to make it worse...my focus would run circles around my SS/SC. i like underdogs, i purchased the balt because of my living arangements right now. i don't have room for a weekend toy so i need something that was new and reliable that i could have fun at the strip or track on the weekends and not have a problem driving to work and back. would it have been better if i mentioned the mustang? or ranger? or T/A? when i mentioned the clutch?...

but... i guess i will give it a little more time and see if it comes around.

I'm a Mitsu Service Manager. I'm just giving you ****. I thought that was funny. Last I checked, there's hardly a 4 cylinder drag car keeping up with the ecotecs out there.

alright, can't tell over the internet...much easier in person, heh. mitsu...solid v6

and i guess i should have said street driven and legally registered, inspected... my opinion is something that can't be driven to the strip is no fun.

but its either sell the car... or wait til i move back to jersey, buy another beater...then pull the motor, trans, interior and do a full build.

also...my first few posts were out of severe anger... just one thing after another within a few weeks.

Jason Whitfield, among many others, have street legal cars running 9's. I don't know of any Supercharged ecotecs running real fast, but you could get an Ariel Atom with one, lol. The Dealer I work for has Mitsu/Ford/Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/Nissan/Suzuki. I used to work at a Chevy/Olds/Pontiac/Buick Store, I get to see a bit of variety.

I'm up in WI, lol. And the dealer I currently work at is certainly not a "superstore" lol. The dealers in CHI make our lot looks like a drop in the bucket.
