Rapid Clicking Noise From Inside The Dash

On my 2007 SS, whenever I first start the car there is a loud rapid clicking noise coming form inside the dash on the passenger side. The clicking noise lasts for a second or so then stops. Has anybody else experienced the same issue, if so, how did you fix it? Unfortuantely the car is out of warranty, 40K miles.

Thanks,

-William

Sounds like it might have something to do with the HVAC system... I dunno. There are too many different types of "clicking" to diagnose it with the information that you have provided.

It actually sounded like it was coming from the location of the air bag. Of course when I got access through the glove compartment, the clicking decided to stop, at least for now.

Sounds like a HVAC issue, if your setting is one one, there will be a clicking noise in the car....hopefully that helps?

This.

It's a pretty common issue. I had the dealer replace the blower motor on mine when it was still under warranty and it didn't help at all. I either just turn up the music or put the fan on settings 2-4

yep, it sucks, whoever the boneheads who designed (or lack of design) the Cobalt and my 04 Malibu must have had some really questionable engineers with no customer involvement / foresight.

Mine just started doing this too. Is there seriously no way of fixing this. I'm pretty sure it's a HVAC problem. I just changed the fuses the other day. Guess I'm going to have to pay the dealership to figure out what's wrong with it.

Anybody figure this out yet? Also, my AC Control lights are messed up too. Can I replace the lights inside? At night the left side comes on but the right side is off. And I still have the clicking!!! Replaced the fuses already...

Get in your owners manual and see if your cars are fitted with a cabin filter. Its behind a cover behind the glove box. You have to unhook the glovebox to see the door. You could have a leave or somthing else falling down on the blower motor making the noise you hear. Pull the filter out and check for debris.

there was a thread about this a bit ago. it seems that the problem is a bad bushing/bearing that the hvac fan spins on. the only way to really have it fixed is to dealer it, beacuse the fan unit i believe is sealed. the way they replace the bushing/bearing is to cut it open and epoxy it lol

So I replaced the cabin filter and it's still clicking. After doing a further inspection, the clicking noise is happening right above the cabin air filter. There appears to be another filter just a bit higher behind what looks like a honeycombed shroud. Don't know if that makes any sense. Anyone got a clue of how I can fix this or what to tell the dealership? I took a pic with my phone ...

The clicking I hear is not a fan. It only happens when I start the car. The sound is more of a switch turning on and off rapidly for about 1-3 sec. then it stops.

HVAC switch maybe??

hmmm like a click click click, sometimes up to 5 times mostly on startup but sometimes at stand still? if so your actually hearing something under your car towards the back. one of the emissions systems.

No, what's being discussed here is something in the HVAC system. It is only noticeable at fan speed 1, but slightly noticeable at fan speed 2. And 3 and 4 are just too loud to hear it over the noise. The clicking goes away completely if you shut off the fan.

My problem is the same as light'bolt where it only happens when you first turn on the car and it's coming from that filter I took a picture of.

No that's not what we're talking about, I know that sound and it's been fixed. This is completly different because the fan is not on when I start the car.

What I need is a schematic of the cars wiring to see if there is a switch under there.....
