Rattling Supercharger replaced!!
Rattling Supercharger replaced!!
Well I took my car in for some unrelated things, but I asked my service guy to have them look at the supercharger and find out what the rattling sound was. Well it turns out that the blades inside were loose, so they are going to replace the charger with a brand new one. He said it's good that they caught it cause much longer and it would have sent metal shavings into the engine, because the rotors would have started to hit each other. So I get to drive a gold HHR in the meantime, which I think is actually a pretty cool car. I just hope I can get it back before the car show on Saturday.
Good thing you caught it when you did.
I hate to break it to you, but I doubt you will have the car back in time. Everything I have had to have ordered for mine takes over a week to come in. I hope I'm wrong.
What exactly was the sound like? Mine sometimes starts to sound like a Duramax. Not sure if it's the vavletrain or what. It comes and goes, and normally doesn't last long enough for me to get home and pop the hood.

BTW on a roots blower the blades are supposed to rub together slightly. That is how they move the air, and also why they are notorious of getting really hot intake temps.
I just sold my GTP to get a SS SC.
Anyway. A common thing with the Eaton superchargers that causes noise is the coupler. It is a pretty inexpensive piece (around $30) and is easy to replace.
You just have to take the SC snout off. Of course if its under warranty, just take it in.

I'm not sure. The blades actually rub on the outer housing and each other to move the air. They are supposed to have an epoxy/teflon coating on them to help increase efficiency and decrease heat. Maybe it wore thin or something.
Mine was hot as hell when I went to the track last weekend. Of course mine was broken apparently. Maybe that's why I only ran a 15.1, that or cause it was 100 fricken degrees out.
