reduced engine power

i know this thread has been cycled many times.

but there has gota be a machanic on this sucker who has delt with this problem personally.

reduced engine power light came on wile on the 805 s here in socal, son was in the back went from 65mph to about 40 in a split second about got smashed but turned away safly.

limp the terd home.
talk to a buddy, clean the throttle body, get some MAF sensor clearner clean that.
still throwing code and still reduced engine power.
i have check all connections for wiring and they seem to be fine.

---
i dont want to go to a shop and pay them 120$ to just plug a code reader in so i ordered a nice one since i will probably need it in the future.

is it true my throttle bady is totaly dead.
the fly by wire harness that cotrols the butterfly valve, is that the issue here.

i need more input then just "your TB is broke get a new one".
little more detail would be nice.

thankyou,
SSBSS

You may not care to do this but I had the same issue. I dont know if you sucked in water or not like I did, but i also cleaned the man sensor and I changed my oil and oil filter and after I did that, no more limp mode. Just throwing it out there what fixed mine

You didn't specify what code it's throwing. Autozone has one you can borrow/rent I believe.

Honestly without knowing the code it could be a misfire from a plug collapsing or just a really dirty MAF. No way of knowing without reading the code.

Yup pretty much u need the code I have a code reader but you don't live by me. Anyways I had the same issue but I read my code and it was the thorttle body code so I cleared the code cleaned the tb and sensor and maf. It came on again so I replaced the tb bought a new one from rockauto.com for 68$. Find someone to scan it call around at a cheapy shop maybe they might charge you 30$ to find the code.

There are many different things that can cause R.E.P.
You need the code or your just throwing parts at it.
I go out and read codes for people at our dealership all the time, we do it for free.
The diagnosis of that code is the second step in fixing the problem.
Third step is replacing the part.
Without the DTC code it could be anything, this would at least narrow it down.
Go buy a code reader, they are dirt cheap for the basic ones these days.

IF it's caused by random misfire, pull out the injectors and check the fuel rail for rust... and replace the fuel filter. - seen it happen!

TP, BARO, MAF, IAT, SCIP sensors work together to calculate an expected airflow rate.
If the PCM detects the airflow rate is more than expected, DTC P0068 sets.

P0069 sets due to the SCIP and BARO not correlated.

If you have live data display on your scanner take a look at those sensor readings.

My car had the "Engine Power Reduced" come on....It was a catalytic converter problem. Chevy recalled the cats. I'd call a GM dealer and have them run your vin number because if it's recalled, definitely take it in and get it replaced. $1200 part for free.

Also, another heads up. If you haven't got the new power steering motor put in, it's recalled on certain Cobalt SS' as well. Again, have them run your VIN.

** I went through everything I could to figure out what was wrong with my car when it was giving me "Engine Power Reduced". I took it to a mechanic, we changed the map sensor, still ran like ****. If it's the same problem, every time my car was pushing any boost, even 1psi on the gauge, it would hesitate and act like it wasn't getting any power...if this is what your car is doing, definitely call a GM dealer and get that **** taken care of for FREEEE!!

im also in california, in the national city area.
all the chevy dealers here in so cal love to scam. they wont even look at my car at ron baker chevy till i cough up 200$. it would be really nice to talk to a service person from BIG GM to get this dealership straightened out. that is why i do all my mechanic work myself. is because of dealers like them.

learned alot of stuff but am very disapointed in GM's service as a whole.

thankyou,
SSBSS
