See Anything Wrong?

...how about now?

This is what I found when I took my valve cover off to replace it. I have no idea how long its been like this. Car has ran just fine. I don't see any other damage anywhere inside the cover. Now my question is this. How are is it to replace this? Please please please, tell me the cam doesn't have to be removed. Any info would be great. I can't get parts until monday. So the car sits...

do you happen to know if its really complicated to replace one of these lash adjusters? I mean it pulled out super simple...granted it was broken and the rocker arm wasn't there...lol

your so damn lucky you dont even know

take all but the last two bearing caps off (the closest ones to the timing chain, then slowly loosen those last two without removing them ever so gently until you have JUST enough space to get the new parts in, done.

You'll need a new lash adjuster and follower.

And yes you have to take the cam out to replace that. Its really not that difficult... Just a little time consuming and somewhat intimidating if you haven't done it before.

Mal, you don't have to take the cam off at that end of the engine, he can get the new parts installed exactly as I stated. Be sure to give the rest a little wiggle with the tip of a screwdriver to make sure you don't have other impending failures (cracked tips and so forth). Oh and set your rev limiter at 6500 or lower.

If I had a warranty...yea. But no warranty so I'd rather get my hands dirty a spend a lot less

your already there, go buy the replacements, and get them in there (soak the lifter in oil before install) once installed, drive a week and change your oil, job done.

You posted right before I did.

Makes sense. I'll have to try that as a field fix if I run into this at work. I wouldn't try it on a 3.6. Their timing set is prone to problems as it is.

I did it on a 3.6 already. on an SRX or whatever the lame ass suv cadillac makes is called. Of course...I had to change the timing set ANYWAYS and the tensioners and the guides...worst design ever...
