Should I replace my timing chain & water pump?

Hey guys my 05 LSJ has 178k miles on it & im still running strong on my OEM timing chain, guides, & water pump. I'm not getting any signs that any of this needs replaced however seeing that I could have major engine damage if my timing chain went out would you guys recommend that I be proactive & have it replaced ? Or should I just wait until I start hearing noise coming from it ?

If you guys do recommend that I replace it now would you go with a GM OEM timing chain & guide set or a after market set ? I found a couple after market sets from Summit racing that are priced better than GM. I found a set made by Cloyes & another set that cost about $50 more made by Sealed Power ?

Nope still running with the original tensioner as well. I think GM is on their 3rd version of tensioners for our cars now. I just never bothered with update it since I figured I would just do it when I replace the timing chain.

Thanks for the advice I'll get it replaced. Do you know anything about the 2 after market timing chain kits from Summit racing ?

Good idea to replace it before it fails. Glad to hear your equipment has lasted so long. I had to do a water pump & tensioner to my 2.2L Cavalier at 125k miles.

I would replace it all with oem parts if I were you. You can also get upgraded bolts if your interested. I would hit up mongorat on here and see if he has any new sets. He gave me a good price before on a lnf set.

Yeah definitely do the chain, guide and tensioner. Man you are flirting with disaster. Get the upgraded bolts too. My car had 116K miles on it and we found the guide bolt sheared, the guide was just bouncing around, close to catastrophic failure.

When do you recommend changing the chain, guide and tensioner? I have 170,000 kilometres on my lsj and it's never been done
