so called lifter tick

I just replaced the lifters today with brand new ones from ZZP, and also changed the timing chain tensionor. Start the car after all back together, and guess what ticking noise is still there until it warms up a bit. So what are the other options it can be?/

Exhaust leak. Did you re-torque the manifold bolts after some heat cycles? I would tighten them more than recommended as well

you really need to change the chain and guides. the small 6 x 1 mm shoulder bolt as well on the beige colored guide. It may even be broken... You can buy kits with all the parts you need from CED at a decent price.

To be honest both my LSJs had a slight tick when cold starting the car. Went away within a minute or two. Is that what you're talking about?

My LSJ ticked like a **** when it was cold, it would warm up and go away. I had already had my timing chain tensioner replaced so I figured it was an exhaust leak. Never had any issues

the metal expands and seals the exhaust leak when the engine warms up.

The chain guides you talking about the piece the tensinor pushes up against and the one on the other side?

So the parts you mentioned were all those or just 231 232 238 and 239?

Car only has 46k on it. If something like that went bad that's nuts never head of guides going bad

Well i dyno'd that but i have the boost turned down on a daily driving standard, and the car sits for a whole weeks due to my work schedule of me working 7days straight and being off 7 days straight so in the last 4 months i put about 3k on it.

In other news were those the 4 parts you were talking about 231,231,238, and 239?

I have this same issue. To the T. And I just replaced the chain, all guides, and all tensioners. I can only hear the tick from like 2-3k rpms. And it goes away once the car is warm

I also have this to the tee. Replaced tensioner and inspected all other parts with cover off only to find nothing. Very slight play in waterpump chain tensioner but there is suposed to be some play from what i hear. I just dont think its a headergasket but i might just change it to find out for sure. If op finds out anything please let us know. Ive also used a powered ear and old school mechanics ear and couldnt find it to be exhaust leak it sounded like waterpump but lets hope not!
