Speedometer not working but odometer does!

So I bought my car with this problem. Speedometer needle sits at 0mph, odometer still counts up correctly, cruise control still works, and resetting my average speed on the HUD shows my speed (verified by gps).
Has anyone ever replaced the stepper motor on the cluster before? If so could you give me a link to one. I'd rather not replace the whole cluster if I don't have to... Help me out here please

Yeah but most stepper motors are like $5. Rather repair it if it can be done easily.
Plus don't you have to relearn the new cluster? Another what... $50?
Post up some pictures of the inside for me if you can please.

does your car shift ok? ( automatic )
any other problems?

ive ripped the speed sensor out of the tranny, and this happens.
when standing infront of the car, on the left hand side below the water pump ( back side of the motor ), you will see 3 wires, inspect, clean.

mine shorted out the first time, and everything els was working, odo, etc. but no speedo. second time a plash guard some how got pulled out and snow packed in / ripped the wires apart, THEN lots of problems came up at the same time.

It's a 2007 cobalt ss/sc.
I'll check up under it and see if I can find those 3 wires. If you can post a picture of them for me please.

Still haven't fixed this!

Okay updating this I really need some help as I have done the following since last posting: replaced the PCM, replaced the gauge cluster, checked all fuses, checked all speed sensor to insure that they are all plugged up and no messed up wires etc., scanned for any codes as I do not have a CEL.
Still after doing all of the above I am left with a speedometer sitting on 0 and everything else works as it should... Wtf could this be any advice is much appreciated, surely someone can point me in the right direction!

Doesn't the speedo cluster get all of its info from the BCM? Are you having any other electrical problems at all?

No other electrical problems. I mean literally the only thing wrong with the car is just the speedo doesn't work... Just has me stumped because the average speed still reads out correctly.

The URL you sent me is messed up. Couldn't look at it
Also wouldn't I have a CEL, if the speed sensor was bad?

Just use your RPM gauge as a Spedometer. If you know what gear you're in, it's fine

Read seven post up... I have replaced the cluster already, the PCM, and Checked every fuse and all wires on every speed sensor

And I've been using my rpm gauge as my speedo its just very annoying staring at a non working speedometer.

Bolt - Did you find what i was talking about? I can email it to you.

If so did it help give you some ideas of what to look at or were to start?

Bust out the multimeter and start testing the wires see if everything is working and has the proper readings....esp the connector on the speed sensor make sure its not all messed up and actually connects lol ...If you have double and triple checked everything little thing and reconnect any iffy looking wire or connector, Then here is the next step on elimination.

I know this has been covered but just to make sure nothing else has become an issue now. Everything works on the interior of your car ..ie sunroof, radio, signal arm, cig lighters, trunk release, all the light bulbs work ?

Reason why I am asking is all of these features are controlled by the bcm and so is your cluster, If something else isn't working along side with the cluster I would start by saying something is wrong with the bcm. But if everything is working then it is a communication problem from the cluster to the bcm or a communication problem between the Bcm and Pcm..

I hope others will chime in and maybe someone has experienced this since I personally haven't, But keep asking people and searching you will find you answer, I hope this helps and keep us posted.

Yeah I'll have to bust out the multimeter Thursday when I have the time. I'll post up the results. Only other thing I can think of is checking out the wiring for my double din radio, not sure if any of that could or would affect the cluster but its worth a shot if all else fails. Reason I say that is because the owner before me put it in and I honestly haven't looked at it. Although everything seems to work as it should, still might be worth taking a look at.
