Talking SPS info

I believe I saw this on here a while back and tried to search for it with no results so this my be a repost.

This is the GM Service and Parts Operations web site that allows you to enter your vehicles VIN and it will alow you to see any updates your car may require. I just went on there and there must be about 30 updates my 2006 SS/SC needs. I am getting a friend of mine to flash these updates so I have them all. I just had my car into the dealer for work and it ticks me off that they would not check to see if I need any of this stuff and flash it. So much for good custumer service.

Any who, check it out you may be surprised what you car may require. The mods might want to make this a sticky.

So what do you do when you put in the VIN and see the stuff? I have 4 for my 2007. DO I just go to the dealer and tell them to Calibrate and Update my car via the TIS website?

Gm releases new updates every so often to deal with specific concerns. this site allows you to see what calibration your cars PCM has and if its up to date or not

What you are looking at are all the updates that GM has out for your vehicle that have not been updated yet. The dealer will use a Tech II to flash the PCM with the required updates. When I was having my clutch replaced the mechanic told me to enter my vin on this site to see what needed updating and I had a **** load to flash.

remember, if you let GM flash your PCM while you have a custom tune you can say goodbye to that custom tune.

I believe that GM does not reflash your tune for the updates but I'm not sure. Each entry has a part number for a specific function. I hooked mine up th HPtuners and downloaded my tune and it was the same after the updates. I would sugest going to a GM certified mechanic that has Tech II and have them do it. I only say this because I am not overly sure what GM will do. Like i said I had mine done by my mechanic and not a dealership. If you have a custom tune I would recommend that you have it down loaded and saved before you do this, that way if they do reflash your entire PCM you can always cut and past your tables on HPtuners and keep the updates.

If you look at HPtuners you can do a parshal flash or a complete flash to your car and in theory I believe but am not sure that Tech II works the same way. Remember these are updates with there own specific part number so they will have to update each one individually and thats why I think that they will not reflash your whole PCM.

I would just ask the dealer if they are willing to update you what the process is before they do it.

Cheers and I hope this helps. If this helps hand out some rep.

Well you don't have to flash it but it would seem that it would be a good idea. Now I don't know if the dealer will do this for you or not because they did not do it to mine when I had it in for service so thats why when offered by my mechanic I jumped at the chance as he did it for free when he had the time.

I would go in to the dealer with the list and see what they have to say.

Just remember that I only posted this to give you guys a heads up. What you do with it is entirely up to you.

how do I know if my car has RPO NF4/NT7 or RPO NU3?

Also, did it really make a difference in how your car ran? cuz I swear up and down somethings not right with mine and of course the dealer couldn't duplicate the problem.....so wondering if this would help

I notice a sizeable difference. I would not worry about which RPO you need as the dealer or tech you take it to will.

can never hurt to ask. Maybe try and find a small mechanic shop that has Tech II and see if they will do it for you. I bet they will be willing to do it if the dealer won't.

yah know. It realy strickes me odd that the dealer will not do this say when you take the vehicle in for service.

good luck my friend.

the rpo is what you need to select different when eliminating SAI. I believe the NU3 is the selection with out it. I will double check. Make sure you know which one ahead of time because you would not want a dealer to accidentally install SAI on your vehicle and you start tripping CEL's cuz your computer is looking for a system that does not exist on your car.

Ok just checked. NU3 is the setting with SAI. NF4/NT7 is the setting that eliminates SAI

I have been trying to get a dealer to make the switch for me and also change the tire size in the ECM. I went with the same size rims but a lower profile tire and by switching to the 15" stock size it is much closer to what I have now.

No one will do it tho.

OK. I see what you are trying to do. Do you know how much the speedo is out with the new tire size. give me your tire size you are running now and the OEM tire size and I will check for you. The 2.4's and 2.0 cobalts can do this through HPtuners and I am pretty sure right now there is no support for the 2.2 ecos but I may be wrong.

send the info I requested and I'll check.

I've checked...I even put a post in the wheels thread with a calculator. the 2.2 comes stock with 2 sizes. 195/60/15 or 205/55/16, I had the 16 inch wheels. My new wheels are 205/50/16. If I were to keep it the way it is my speedo and odometer are off by 3.3% or 330 extra miles every 10k, but if I change it to the 15" setting then the speedo and odo are off by .8% or 80 miles every 10k

Unfortunately, there is no support for the 2.2's other than doing a reflash using the tech II machine. Halfcent found this out when he was at the CED meet earlier in the month. there is one member on here who works at a dealership but he is a 4 hour drive to Maine.
